Yesterday was great, getting to see the Garden of the Gods and going to the top of Pikes Peak by way of train......just awesome. We woke up in Colorado Springs this morning to a beautiful but chilly sunrise. I swear I just love this weather up here and from what I hear, I would much rather spend my Summer out here than back at home. Kayla told me last night that it was so hot back at home that it didn't even feel good to get in the pool. She said they had to go inside just to get cool..........now that's Georgia hot for ya ! Speaking of hot, as I was blow drying my hair his morning, I realized it was blowing out cold air and evidently the hot air thingy was broken. I very well couldn't dry my hair with cold air, so Tim, being the sweetheart he is, got dressed and ran into Wal-Mart to buy me a new hair dryer. This is just one of the many luxuries of living in Wal-Mart parking lots. :-) My new dryer worked just perfectly and it was pretty too. I dried my hair as Tim filled the cooler with drinks
and ice and soon we were on our way to check out the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. We arrived at our destination and entered the gates at the front of the park. We made our way up to the museum and gift shop and took the grand tour. After learning all about the dwellings, we went back outside to walk through them with all the other tourist. This kind of stuff is right up Tim's alley. He loves learning about how the indians lived and survived back in the day. He especially enjoys learning about how they built the dwellings and he's amazed how they constructed them in such a way that they would still be standing to this day. It's amazing to learn about how they made all their cooking utensils, jewelry, clothing, baby swaddles, headdresses, shoes and the weaving they did was so intricate and detailed. We walked through the cliff dwellings, took a few pictures, bought a few t-shirts and then made our way back to the motorhome. It was turning out to be such a beautiful day, nice and cool in the low 70's, so we opened the windows and hit the road. Our next stop was
back in Manitou Springs where we were going to stroll through the town in search of all the water springs so that we could taste the spring water everyone was talking so much about. Of course we had to park a mile out of town due to lack of RV parking but that was okay because we needed the exercise. We walked and walked until we made it to our first spring where Tim looked at me and said "I think you should try it first !". So in good spirit I took our little red solo cup and filled it to the rim and then turned it up. Ummmmmmm.......it was different for sure but not bad. It had a sweet taste to it and it was really fizzy. Tim wasn't really in the tasting mood so he just stuck his tongue in it, made a little smirky face and proceeded to pour the rest back into the fountain. We strolled through Manitou Springs, following the map, and eventually made our way to the next spring. Once again, I took the cup and filled it with the spring water and once again Tim refused to taste it. He just looked
at me and said, "Until these springs have Crown Royal springing from them, I ain't tasting nothing !". He was dead serious too, he didn't taste another drop of water all day. We continued on to several other springs throughout the quaint town until we eventually came upon a cute little wine shop. Tim saw the "wine tasting" sign hanging in the window and before I knew it we were sitting at the bar sipping on wine. I must admit the air conditioning and the wine were a nice break from all that walking out in the sunshine. We each tasted four different types of wine and then chose a glass of our favorite. I loved the sweet and fruity peach and the grapefruit wines but Tim favored the more dry merlots and red wines. We ended up buying three bottles of our favorites and then made our way out onto the sidewalk. It soon began to sprinkle so we decided to head on back to the motorhome and move on to our next destination. There was a famous hotel named in the book called The Broadmoor and it was nearby so we wanted to check it out. On the
way over to the Broadmoor, the bottom fell out and it began to thunder and lightening and pour down rain. Once we arrived we couldn't find anywhere to park which was okay with us because we really didn't want to get out in the weather anyway. I took a couple of pictures from inside the motorhome and we headed on down the road. We were headed North on I-25 towards Denver which was taking us forever in the nasty storm but we finally made it and pulled over to fill up with gas and add a little water. There was nothing on our list of things to do in Denver so we just drove around downtown for a few minutes and then headed on back to the highway. Our friend Richard was going to get us a free tour of the Coors beer plant there but Tim didn't want to do another beer manufacturing facility since we've already done Budweiser and Miller so I didn't argue and off we went. The storm had finally passed and there was a little daylight left so we made our way up and half-way across another HUGE mountain when all of a sudden we
start seeing casino billboards. What do you know, nestled up on top of a mountain, in a small town called Blackhawk, were about twenty casinos, small and large, and Tim looked over at me with "that look" and the next thing I know we're getting players cards at the Isle of Capri !! Because of it being on top of a mountain, there was very limited parking for any type of vehicle but especially for a big motorhome like ours. After driving around for about thirty minutes, I finally called The Isle and asked them for help. The nice lady on the phone directed us to an open parking space right beside the casino which was designated for deliveries and buses but she was kind enough to give us permission to park there as well. Of course, she didn't have to tell us twice, we parked, changed clothes and off we went to gamble the night away.......and hopefully not our checking accounts ! We gambled a while and then met up for dinner at the casino's cafe where we enjoyed a nice dinner together. Evidently the blackjack tables were calling Tim's name because he wasted no time eating and was
soon back on the floor trying his luck. I ended up sitting a $.25 Wheel of Fortune slot machine, with a couple of girls I met, for the next four hours having a blast. It wasn't too much longer before an exhausted Tim came up behind me ready for bed. I know, I didn't believe it either, but it was true, we were both so tired so I cashed out my $44.00 and we made our way to the parking spot where Big Bertha was sitting. There wasn't a whole lot of room there so we couldn't open the slides but that was okay with us. We put on our jammies and were fast asleep. We plan on spending most of tomorrow in the Rocky Mountain National Park where there's supposed to be tons of wildlife roaming around. I'm gonna say a special "bear" prayer for Tim tonight in hopes that he finally gets to see his bear. Sweet dreams.......... !
