Yesterday I went into town in the morning to purchase some snow boots and also took my camera for a walk. Then in the afternoon I went back to Buttermilk and skied a few (slightly) harder trails. Still no falls which is quite a miracle. Then yesterday evening I went to the world premiere of 'the ripple effect' which is a film about the Aspen community. It was really good but quite sad as one of the guys in it died during the filming period, so they dedicated the film to him. It was pretty cool to hang out with locals and not feel like such an outsider. I also managed to win a pair of ski socks, so it was really quite a productive evening. The evening before that, a group from the floor I'm staying on went out to watch the delayed New Years fireworks. They were pretty amazing, and lit up the whole of Ajax mountain. All the new years celebrations were delayed because of the bomb threat. The man put up to four parcels of an explosive with cell phone detenators in various banks around town then delivered threatening notes to the newspaper. He also threatened the mayor who was whisked away to a secret location. The man was on the loose for awhile but was later found to have committed suicide in a reserve out of town. It wasn't the best welcoming to Aspen but at least no one else was hurt.
This morning it is snowing and cold, I will probably go and explore one of the other mountains this afternoon. Everyone is madly trying to clear paths through the snow. I have yet to venture outside today.
I hope all is well and warmer in NZ
