BOSTON
So here it is!! Our first blog entry. We were just trying to keep you all in suspense, but really, it was all down to the fact that America seems to only have 4 internet cafes countrywide! Heathrow was a nightmare. We were delayed by over an hour waiting to get onto the plane and then while we were in the air we was delayed landing again!!! Overall a 6 hour and 27 minute flight turned into a 8 and a half hour flight!!! And then, like I told you all and nobody believed me (including Sian) we were detained by the U.S. Federal Marshalls!!!!!!
They went through absolutely freakin' everything. Three times they asked us the same questions, over and over. Took our passports off us and our tickets and took them off to check. Asked about you Boss!! "Where your momma from boy?" said Officer Lopez. Then they started to go through our bags. Found Sian's 32 pair of pants and decided we wasn't a threat and decided to let us go off on our way. We got off the plane at 6.15pm eastern time and ended up getting out of the airport at around 8:15pm.
Next day started off as a day of Hell. We were thinking that maybe going travelling was a bad idea. But still we weren't fighting with each other (which makes a change) so all was well. Got our new ("local to everything, minutes from the airport") digs sorted. Sounded great. Had a slice and a drink, all was getting better. Got into a cab to take us to our luxurious new pad for 2 days, got in and set off. 30 minutes later from the centre of Boston there we were. A song came into my head while we were in the cab...Elvis Presley's classic 'In the Ghetto' . We certainly were. Never met such rude people. And they worked in a hotel!!! They're all supposed to be nice. Anyway after we checked in by jumping over the rolls of the lobbies new carpet we got to finally lay our bags down. And then go and discover Boston! The one cool thing about the hotel was that it laid on a shuttle to take us to the 'T' Station which was like the tube and went everywhere.
We went to Fanuiell Hall (Now im not entirely sure that's
how you spell it) look it up on google. Pretty cool place actually. 3 markets and a giant food hall. Apparently it's the largest in the World. Selling everything from Hot Dogs, Taco's, Corn Dogs, Calzones, Seafood, Chinese, Thai and of course...Mac and Cheese. Sian ate as much of that stuff as possible. There's even a photo of her tucking in, just for Addie. We went to the oldest tavern in the U.S.A. All of the old time Presidents went there and it's been around for ages!! It was pretty cool. Had a little guitarist in there playing Pearl Jam, Barry White, Otis Redding and others. We had our dinner in there and had honest to god the biggest burgers we've had in our lives. Mine came with blue cheese and Sian went for the bbq option. I've never felt so tired after eating in my life. We also went to find a place to watch the Liverpool v Arsenal champs league quarter final. It was like trying to find Jesus. Went into loads of bars. Of course it was the opening day of the new baseball league (YOU COULD OF TOLD ME NAS!!) and Boston was on the telly.
We went into one bar called 'Kitty O'Shea's' and asked politely "Would you be showing the 'Soccer' game?" I may aswell of asked if I could jump onto the bar, pull me pants down and curl one off. The look she gave me! "It's opening day????!!!!!" barked Miss O'Shea.
We went to the Prudential Centre Observatory. It was brilliant. It was on the 52nd floor and as we were in the lift our ears were popping. 750ft in the sky!! Brilliant view of the entire city. Downtown, Southie, Fenway Park, MIT, Harvard Uni seen it all and got some cracking photo's.
Boston was COLD!!!In the days it wasn't so bad but by about 8pm, the place was freezing.
Yesterday we caught our flight from Boston to LAX (Los Angeles Airport). It was a very pleasant nice empty flight. Had Sian sprawled out over 3 seats sleeping!! While munching on crackers. Got into Los Angeles at about 11am and then caught a bus to Van Nuys airport to head to Valencia to Tony's and Ellen's (Sians friends son- Boss) was told there was a bus heading there across from the airport. Headed over and noticed that the bus
was every hour. So enjoyed the wait. Met a friend named Marcos, who was a barber, gave him a 2 pound coin because he liked foreign currency. He gave me a magnet of his shop. Carried on waiting. And Waiting. THEN A BUS COMES!!!!! Go to get on. The driver says the bus don't go to Valencia, the next one does. So we carry on waiting. And waiting. And again waiting, THEN THE BUS COMES!!!!! We go to get on, the driver says the bus dont go to Valencia. No Bus does from here. Wounder!! Sian had just read in our travel book 'You must always keep a sense of humour' so we did. Ended up getting a cab upto the place for a whopping $60!! Got there and scared the life out of Tony and Ellen who were waiting for us to call them, instead we just show up on their door. They made us a wicked pizza and salad which tasted like Gordon Ramsey had made it as we hadn't eaten all day. We were introduced to 'Hercules and Maximus' their sons....not really it was there dogs. Cool as f*ck dogs aswell I might add. The mighty Hazel
and George have drove us down to Santa Barbara where tonight we are off to see Eddie Vedder. Can't wait. Let the drinking begin..............
......It's f'ing sweating!!!!!!
