July 28 - July 31 After a hectic three days in the UK after the excitement of Africa we set off on the next part of our adventure - the U S of A! In a rare blast of creativity for an accountant, Simon has written the next few posts... Alcatraz - August, 8 We were in luck. The day we had picked to return to San Fran was as clear and sunny as the locals can ever experience so we stopped off at the Golden Gate bridge on the way to the Alcatraz ferry to get a good look from both ends. It really is a spectacular structure but it’s hard to get a good photo with the crowds all doing the same. Hallo allemaal, En dan bij deze alweer post nummer 7. Het leek me weer tijd om een inhoudelijke post te plaatsen, dus daar gaat ie dan. Op deze droevige dag in de geschiedenis van Amerika, die sinds de beide wereldoorlogen, de Rwandese genocide en de geboorte van Jan Smit, een van de grootste drama's op aarde vertegenwoordigt merk ik vrij weinig van herdenkingen etc. Ik weet niet wát ik had verwacht maar het enige wat ik er tot nu toe van gezien heb zijn een paar Amerikaanse vlaggen die halfstok hangen. Arriving in the Hood Departing on Sunday evening from Taiwan and arriving on Sunday evening at San Fransisco. Because of the time difference my Sunday was a long one. From the airport at San Fransisco I took a train to the location of my hostel. Walking through the neighbourhood made me soon realize this was one that makes you walk a pace faster. It is what you see in movies. People hanging around looking not so nice and the atmosphere was not very pretty. My recent trek to NYC to visit good friends and eat delicious foods helped me realize that some people can travel the world, but never really know their own country. So, as I feel it is my necessary duty as a true friend, I've decided to play tour guide to someone close to me and convince him of San Francisco's culture, class and equally enthralling cuisines. A week long adventure mixing beautiful weather with hidden secrets should open his eyes to the tranquil beauty Northern California has to offer. While the last few weeks of my trip were a bit of a bust, I have pretty much fully recovered from the flu and am quite happy to be back home in my beautiful city where so far, no one seems to not want to be around me based on my swine flu history.
