We bought our tickets to Africa (SF to Istanbul to Cairo to East Africa and beyond) three months ago, but with just two weeks til departure the anticipation is killing us. 99% of our preparations are done--pouring over military survival guides and McGuyver reruns, perfecting our poop-'n-bury techniques, and learning how to tame a pack of wild hyenas with a spork and peanutbutter. We also got vaccinations, updated our passports, and packed the band-aids...just in case. In lieu of travel guides, we've been reading an eclectic assortment of Africa-related histories, memoirs, novels, and es [View Full Entry]

Hi friends and family! The last time you heard from me I was probably telling stories of riding elephants in India.  Now I'm off to teach yoga at a studio in Tokyo, Japan.  I'll try to write more when I have a chance and hopefully soon have stories and pictures posted for you. During my yoga retreat in India I made a dear friend who owns a yoga studio in Tokyo and is also a writer.  Leza is 12 years older than me and an amazing mentor for my career.  She is also inspiring to be around as a wonderful, kind, [View Full Entry]

For the last week I have been in San Francisco. With this being my last destination, I am now planning on my next steps and how I will be able to get back here. The best cities by far have al been the ones next two water. Is this because I dont feel closed off or does it bring a stronger connection to Sydney? San Franciscans can be super stylish and have some great music. The city seems to be constantly immersed in festivals and concerts. As a tourist I did most of the typical things like the Golden Gate, Crooked [View Full Entry]

San Francisco: Sept 16-22 We bussed it over the Bay Bridge into one of America’s most loved city, excited to be visiting somewhere that we’ve always wanted to see (the more you travel, the less this happens). We’re greeted by a sunny, windy day - the norm for San Fran- and decided to carry our bags to the hotel as its only 5 blocks away. Well that was 5 American city blocks that are far bigger than Canadian blocks but the worst part of it all is San Francisco must be the hilliest city in the world. We get to [View Full Entry]

I am home now, and it's great! So on my travelblog, after coming home from the PI, I made a list of things I'd miss about the Philippines and list of reasons I was glad to be coming back to the States. So I guess I'll do the same for my Europe trip. Things I'll miss about being in Europe, in no particular order: - Not looking at my daily planner every second of the day. Actually, after the first week, I hardly looked at it. I'm the total Virgo, the person that is infamously known for highlighting all the things [View Full Entry]

Hello all! Aaron and I have arrived safely in San Francisco and have both begun our ministries. We are living in a parish, school, and retired Marist community right in the middle of the financial district in downtown San Fran. Its a great location and Aaron and I had a few days to explore the city on our own before beginning our work. After meeting with Catholic Charities we have both begun working although in different places. Aaron is working at a place called Rita de Cascia house which is a home for previously homeless families who have a family member [View Full Entry]
