November 2005- San Jose and San Francisco for my cousin's wedding!!! San Jose was really beautiful and had a tropical feel inside a modern city. I love seeing Palm Trees line up the streets!!! That's something I wish we had back in Toronto. San Francisco is so fun with its curvy streets. Makes driving a whole new experience!! Its strange because i really felt a few days back that this journal should not be continued with. I have just (for the first time) showed it to Elaine who said she thought it was good and that it should continue. Whats weird though is that reading it again makes me think it might be worth carrying on with because it triggers nice memories of some of the things i have done and it might be good to have a permanent record of all that. I am writing this one retrospectively so it won't be very deatiled. But i will say that San Francisco is a brilliant city, one of the best i have ever been to. I wondered when i left Vancouver if i would experience anywhere else that made me feel i could live there and amazingly i found that with SF the very next place that we visited. Highlights included the Golden Gate Bridge, which we biked along (and which also includes a suicide crisis phone line in the middle of it in an attempt to deter the many suicides the bridge gets) [View Full Entry]

Alcatraz for me was the thing that i most wanted to see in San Francisco before i came, i had first seen the Clint Eastwood film when i was a young child and was always fascinated with the place. We went there on the boat to the island and were able to go inside the cell block, where we experienced a 35 audio tour of the cell block. San Fransisco Bay that is. Prior to coming here I spent 3 days in Calgary and I must say that it is a relatively dull, unimpressive place. Considering it's size (smaller than Perth) it has an unusually high number of street bums and really dodgy people wandering about. But there is one reason - a good reason - to go to Calgary. It's so you can go to Banff! And what a pretty place Banff is. Pretty bloody cold! Sunday and wine is a great mix. Especially if it's at 10:00 in the morning. Like the tour guide said, it's 5 o'clock somewhere. Good excuse for getting buzzed before lunch. I like this high-so wine tasting thing. You can take little sips and talk about bouquets and nuts and fruits and stuff, and pretend you're all cultured and important.
