San Francisco was an amazing place we all fell in love with it. The straight roads and cable cars, the hustle and bustle of the people going about their business was all so vibrant and exciting. We stayed in a very central location so set off early on our first day with guide book in hand and cameras at the ready and headed off for the sights. We walked for miles and entered China Town marvelling at the shops and red lanterns bobbing along the streets.
We then walked through the city section and stared up into the sky at high rise buildings and blocks of concrete we even stumbled upon a demonstration taking place with the Chinese Community complaining about the racist comments made on US TV. We found our way out along side the pier promenade and started a long walk up to Pier 39 and the sea lions. We stopped at the Sea Acquarium and marvelled at the sharks and huge fish as they swam over our heads as we walked through an under water tunnel.
The boys were fascinated with the skates and rays in the shallow pools which you wre allowed to touch gently
At the WaterfrontTrying out our new tripod that twists and grips to anything including this wooden bench!
as they swam passed you. The starfish and smaller fish were incredible also and a great place to explore.
Everything along the sea front was larger than life and twice as loud. There were the usual pier entertainments and food bars aswell as amusement arcades all of which we were glad to pass by quickly.
The views out to the sea were amazing and we managed to find a small boat offereing rides out in to the bay and around Bird Island otherwise known as Alcatraz. We got sprayed from the cross winds as the little boat crossed the bay but we enjoyed getting up close to the bridge and looking back at the city. It is a truly beautiful place .
Collecting our hired car was fun especially as I had to get used to an automatic right hand drive a huge thing but fortuntely easy to drive once i got the hang of it. The boys were great and were my extra pairs of eyes and Seb was chief navigator.
We decided to follow the 'Seagull Sceinic Tour' Around San francisco and negotiated the 'posh' end of the city and the coastal drive all very
pretty and wonderfu views of the bridge too through pine trees and golf courses.
Then on the highway to Yosemite a mere 200 miles, a doddle!!!!!.
