Santa Barbara
So where did we leave you? I believe we were off to get our drink on for the company of Mr. Vedder. Whilst we were in the internet cafe writing our last blog, we left poor Hazel and George sitting outside resting up. For those of you who don't know who Hazel and George are, they are Tony's (as in last blog entry) parents! They very kindly drove us to Santa Barbara and kept us company for a couple of days. We went for something to eat in a place called 'Rubys Cafe', however, we then had to leave before ordering because Hazel had this 'Rubys Cafe' mixed up with 'Rubys Diner' which, served the Turkey Pot Pie!! Which she had been piping on about all day. So we headed over to the 'Rubys Diner' where the waitress only allowed Hazel and George to share a Turkey Pot Pie!!! And she also asked for ID of Jav when she was 4 years younger than him!
We managed to shake Hazel and George off in time for Eddie (No really you were both brill, thanks for everything!). On the way to the theatre, we found a man
who had a dog, who had a cat, who had a mouse. No really. It was genius. All just sitting on each other. Genius!!! Jav found the best beer he has tasted in his life named Firestone (see if you can pick it up in Michaels, you won't be dissapointed), not sure how he can remember seen as though he must have tasted all the beers around here!! So we evetually took our seats in the Theatre and as quick as our asses touched the seats Jav was off to get another beer, leaving me to enjoy young Liam Finn (This is Jav here, if you would of heard young Liam Finn, you would of joined me at the bar. While I was going into the bar at the theatre, the doorman stopped me while looking at my passport. He was looking at it for ages. I was thinking, 'it's not like im in a rush here mate' He said, ''Oh im sorry, im just abit of a geography nut, just thinking where Birmingham was'' Had some more Firestone by the way). So Jav eventually came back about an hour later (about 20 mins!!) and i will hand over to
him now for his Q Music Review of Eddie Vedder!!!
Eddie Vedder
Now for those of you who are not aware of the genius of Eddie Vedder, you may want to just skim over this paragraph, but if you are going to do it, then this is my review of the gig for you.....it was f'ing fantastic!!! The Arlington Theatre was amazing. It was set up like a little village. Houses were built to the walls with little balcony's and everything. America do take it to a new level. Anyway, Eddie comes out, then absails down from one of these balcony's. The place is going mental!! He had his 5 guitars laid out behind him and played loads of Pearl Jam stuff, a couple of Beatles tunes and then some off the Into The Wild soundtrack. He read a little poetry. Then declared "I can have myself half a cigarette" then lights up. A bloke in the front row decided to do the same. A security guard decided to then chuck him out as soon as his lighter had touched a grain of tobacco. Eddie carried on. Then on one of the encores (This will make you sick Nick) he only went and introduced Ben Harper out!!! Who sang a couple of songs with him. All and all, a brilliant gig. One i'll always remember. Partly because I was wearing my new Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air t-shirt and loads of american freaks were obsessed with it!! One even wanted me to do the dance....I was drunk...Not that drunk however. So I would give it a whopping 6 out of 5. Sian would give it 5 out of 5. She's wrong however, it was defo 6 out of 5. And now, I hand you back over to the Sianster.
So with that out of the way, we headed back to the Motel 6 and for a short sleep before we had to rise in time for our Hound the next day!! However, Jav decided not to change his phone from Boston time and woke me at 8.30 Boston time, or 5.30 California time!! The worst is yet to come, i was showered, changed and had my bag on ready to go, then he informs me that he didn't realise it was only 5.30am!!!! So we get unchanged back into bed and do the whole thing again 2 hours later!!! We got to the bus station for 10am and was ready for our, wait for it, yes 9.5 hour drive to San Francisco!!! During this time, Jav started to miss George and spent a good hour crying on my shoulder, i told him it would be fine and we would see them again soon enough!! Jav then spent another hour crying, this time it was due to his Ricky Gervais podcast.
Finally arrived in San Francisco at 8.30pm and headed from the station to our new home for the next 4 nights......
