Yesterday I read a book named "弃业, 出去走一走“. It is about a girl in Taiwan quit her successful marketing career to travel around Taiwan. She spent most of her time visiting organic farms and learning the various difficulties that farmers encountered in their mission to be organic and healthy. She met a lot of cool and nice people in her journey, but also some uncool ones. She was able to go back to basic and enjoy life. Through this journey, she was able to break the cycle of "Home-Work-Home-Work-Home-Work..... -Death". First of all, this book helped me to put a name to what I am going to do tomorrow. Secondly, there are plenty of "crazy" people out there like me. = ) I shared many of her sentiments about getting back to basic and really appreciate ... read more

Sunday 27th November We left NZ at 15.15pm on Sunday 27th Nov and arrived in LA at 6.30am on Sunday 27th November!! We had allowed 5hrs ( as per internet advice!) to get through customs, collect baggage and get to the next terminal to check in again for our flight to San Francisco. I suppose it took about 2hrs so we had a 3hr wait in Terminal 5 for our 11.15am flight to Oakland. We all boarded the plane (50 seater!) and 15mins later we all disembarked due to mechanical problems! They were unsure at first whether the plane would be fixed and/or if another flight would be put on, but eventually they announced there would be a flight leaving at 13.30. Arrived in San Francisco about 15.00 ish and then took the bus to the ... read more

Here it is our last day in "sunny" San Francisco. It has been cold and foggy most of the time we are here. Especially where we are parked. We drove into the city early today to take care of our grandchildren while Jason goes to work. I did boring laundry, which really needed to be done and Gerry took the boys for a "short" walk with the dog. The pictures of the artwork was along the walk in downtown SF. Three hours later, Jason comes home from work and no kids or Grandpa. I was getting worried, but not too bad but I didn't have the phone and Jason doesn't have a land line. Jason called his dad and found out they were at the park, but 12 blocks away. So he went to pick them ... read more

Here we are in beautiful San Francisco. Parked on a 60 foot cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The place we are staying is a glorified parking lot with a club house and a swimming pool. Last night I took a walk around the cliff and talked to some of the travelers. Wow some of the trailers and moterhomes are huge and expensive. But all in all the people are all the same. Warm and friendly. Talked to a couple from Texas, going to Reno for some car show. They live in their RV full time. It is 34ft long 5th wheel. Nice.....anyway back to our trip. We spent 3 days in Garberville, with Jason and his two boys, Ryan and Jaden. Had a great time. Swimming in the pool and taking little trips to the Redwoods. ... read more

Our journey home took us to San Francisco last Thursday, 19 May. We continued to have sunny weather, but here it was consistently windy, especially of an afternoon. With temperatures in the mid teens it was probably our chilliest city so far. The panorama above has been shortened to 90 degrees from the 'Gate' & Jan to San Francisco waterfront on the right. We stayed at the Raddison at Fisherman's Wharf - a very comfortable room with some water views from the balcony. But the big plus was being there at 'The Wharf' - so many good places to eat - great walks in both directions - entertainment in the streets - starting point for Red Bus tours - perfect. Hope you like this selection of photos (from many). It's been great reading comments about the ... read more

Feeling the need to hang out with the hippies and pot smokers, headed off to Haight n Ashbury to get my groove on. There was no much to see in the area, as it is mainly shops. Though there were some cool little boutique stores among a few hippie shops spread out down the street. The clock next to the famous Haight, Ashbury street signs is permantly stuck on 4.20, which stopped at some time during the 60's or 70's. 4.20 has now become the international time to smoke pot, on april 20th.. which is now international pot smoking day. After wandering the streets with the hippies, i then went and hung out with the gay folk in the castro area, tho was scared off by a random guy casually sitting with his mates having a ... read more

We arrived here Sunday. We are camped right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The last couple of nights we spent visiting our dear friends Jack and Yolanda. It si always great to see them and see what new projects Jack has up his sleeves. Today we headed into San Fransisco for an entire day of sightseeing. It was a perfect day, perfect weather, not too cool and clear skies. It wasn't crowded which was nice. We have been to San Fransisco before and had seen most of the popular sights. So, I just wanted to ride around and see the neighborhoods .We rode the BART, electric bus, and cable cars. We went to Chinatown and the old Ferry Building. After being in China, Chinatown was just a smaller, newer version. The Ferry building has ... read more

Well guys, here goes...I'm in San Francisco right now after a 4 hour flight from Chicago. I'm telling you, no joke, I sat next to a Buddhist monk the entire flight to Cali! Good omen? I think yes. I spent the night in the airport as the plane landed at around 12:30 Pacific time...so around 3am our time. Can I just tell you that I'm a hot mess right now? HOT MESS. My hair has been washed in an airport bathroom, and my B.O. is for sure a force to be reckoned with. Regardless, I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll be posting pictures as soon as I can. Love you all. ... read more

San Francisco was a wonderful stop. It is a beautiful old city and the people here are very friendly and helpful to visitors. We arrived and were set up by about 1:30 or 2:00 so set out on our first adventure downtown and to have dinner in China Town. We found out we are not very mass transit oriented. First problem being we left our Bart instructions from the RV park in our car. No problem, we can figure it out, ha. Actually we did figure the ticket machine and which train to take OK, it was getting off that presented the problem. We found a friendly native who told us to get off at Powell St., thank you nice person. First 6 stops the station name was on the left, 7th stop, no name hmmmm. ... read more
