Yini and I left for China today. Here was our scheduled flights:
- Houston to Denver
- Denver to San Francisco
- San Francisco to Beijing
Two flights on United, one on Air China.
After boarding our flight to Denver, we were informed by our pilot that the left engine was broken. We then deplaned and went to the United ticketing counter to schedule a new flight. The time was about 10:15am.
The United representative was not very helpful. She told us the earliest we could leave Houston would be 3:30pm, with the next flight out at 6:00pm. Both would require waiting around at Bush airport for 5-8 hours.
We talked to Yini's Dad and found out there was a flight to San Francisco that left at 11:00am. Why weren't we told?? We got back to the United counter, booked the 6:00pm flight (as a backup), then got 2 standby tickets to the 11:00am flight. We then did our best run-through-the-airport-like-a-cheesy-movie act and arrived at the gate on time. Woo-hoo!
We were seated and off to San Francisco with a comfortable one and a half hour layover to our flight to China.
Then, 2 hours in to the flight a woman at the back of the plane had a diabetic attack of some kind. The crew was calling for any doctors on board, and everyone was fairly concerned. We had to make an emergency landing in Pheonix to get her to a hospital.
She was fine and was taken off in a prompt manner. Unfortunately, the whole emergency landing process took about one and a half hours, and we arrived in San Francisco 15 minutes after our flight to China left. Boo. Now it's 3:15pm PST, and Yini and I are stuck in San Francisco, what are we to do?
Wait, we're stuck in San Francisco! That's awesome! Let's have fun!
We got our hotel vouchers, rescheduled our flight for the next day (leaving at ~11:30am now instead of 3:00pm), and headed out...
