After the road trip across from Utah I needed to rest a little. The USA Hostel, down town San Deigo had large airy rooms, friendly staff and free waffles for breakfast - all for $19 per night. I've been told that Oz is way cheaper - but that is the cheapest hostel so far - I booked up three nights. The hostel was located in the Gas Lamp Quarter, real scenic, lots of bars.
America does actually have some nice beer. Samual Adams - real beer - like the english stuff - hops and malt and flavor. At $5 a pint it bloody well should be nice - had one pint and went to Ralphs supermarket - picked up 12 Corona for $9 and went back to the hostel - getting in training for Mexico.
So three days in SD in recap -
Day one - wandered, $4 meal, bar, corona in hostel, played cards , bed. It's really nice just to relax for a change.
Day two - met Robbie (Canadian) with Matt - to talk about Mexico - all travelling down Baja together - with a stop in Tijuana - the Mexican party city. Walk
along a cloudy beach with Matt and Robbie talking about Mexico. Great Mexican food in La Jolla - again more training. More corona at the hostel followed by taking some nice girls from the hostel out to a bar. In the bar we met some scouser squadies who were on a drinking and shagging tour of the US, just what we didn't need. Really cramped the style - followed by bed - on ones own for everyone - including the scousers.
Day three - San Diego Zoo - saw lots of fantastic animals, nothing humorous - though riding on a huge bronze gorilla is something that I have never considered doing before. The elephant was big, the giraffe tall and most of the other animals asleep. The Giant Panada did scratch occasionally and had apparently eaten earlier in the day. The best zoo I've ever been to.
Matt and I arranged a party down to TJ (Tijauna) - mostly to get Steve (20 - underage in US - fine in TJ) sent off back home having experienced a decent drinking session.
More corona, about to go to bed when an Irish guy (Dec) starts playing a guitar
- a real one - not like my cut down lute look a like. So we spent about 4 hrs jamming, Dec has a good way with words and started putting down some lyrics to some of the music I have. Bed at almost 3 am - ready for an early start into Mexico.
Cool time in San Deigo - though I think I'm doing things slightly wrong - during the weekdays I've been in the happening cities - where its been quite, and at the weekends I've been in exciting spots like Cedar City... I have a year at least so I guess I have time to make sure that I'm in the right places at the right time at some point.
On to Mexico !!

Gaslamp
The Gaslamp Quarter is definatley a must visit in San Diego, lovely area. Also, if you can find transportation to Old Town San Diego, it's worth a visit too, but is quite a ways from Downtown.
