Happy new years. Hope everyone had a good christmas. Sorry the blog is bit behind, we're working on it! Can't get pictures up at the moment, but we'll add some when we can!
Wednesday 13th December Paul - Greyhound fun for a whole day. What could be more exciting than a whole 11 hours and 56 minutes spent with the freaks and weirdos (and the one sane person) on the Greyhound? Nothing I tell you. A woman who talks to her hand? You've got it on the Greyhound! A bus driver who tells you to get off the bus and then yells at you for getting OFF the bus? It's on the Greyhound! Token fat guy? The Greyhound! Token fat girl? It's the Greyhound! Token stop at Burger King for the fatties? Greyhound all the way.
Suffice to say we arrived in San Diego desperate for bed but little did we know what was in store for us that night. A man who makes the Greyhound freaks look like model citizens. I'll set the scene. It's 10pm and Laura and I got into our dorm bed in the H.I. hostel downtown. A guy aged roughly 50 years
old walks into the room and proceeds to make a horrible "CHWUCK" sound with his throat. You know the one. When you've got a cold. It's disgusting. He then proceeded to do this... FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT. Every 30 seconds. You could set you're clock to it.
Now this wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for something else... something worse. He proceeded to get into bed and "CHWUCK" at the same time before farting. Continuously. For five minutes. He then stopped. "CHWUCKed" a little bit more. THEN FARTED SOME MORE! This continued until my brain couldn't take anymore and probably shut itself off. Laura told me in the morning that to add to the "CHWUCKing" and farting, he also decided to drum on the wooden bed posts at half 3 in the morning. No wonder guns are legal here. Someone go get me one.
Thursday 14th December Paul - Laura and I just can't look that guy in the eye anymore. I can't believe he isn't embarrassed. We do now think he is crazy.
Anyway today we headed over to Balboa Park in the north of San Diego. It's rammed full
of museums rather bizarrely and doesn't actually contain much grass but it's nice to wander round for a couple of hours. We didn't go in any of the museums because they were pricey and most of them were titled "The US history of Automobiles".
Caught the bus over to Ocean Beach which is a little suburb nestled in the north east of San Diego. It's your typical surfer destination with "alternative" shops and people on skate boards. It's not particularly nice there to be honest but we watched a lovely sunset and lots of people surfing in on the waves.
Just want to add that San Diego is a lovely city really! It's Gaslamp Quarter is a really nice section of restaurants and bars, all outdoors as it's so hot here year round. They even play decent music and have live bands playing in a few of them. There's a lot of choice!
Friday 15th December Laura - Thankfully we bought some earplugs last night so freak guy didn't keep us awake. In a sexy moment though, Paul woke up at 6am to see him cutting his toenails onto the floor in the corner of
the room! Later on when I was brushing my teeth I was almost sick when I noticed a few dirty nails in the sink. What a classy guy he is.
Today we went to Seaworld, which was really fun and cool. We got to see the famous whale, Shamu, and Dolly the dolphin. The shows with the animals were absolutely amazing. We also got the chance to feed the dolphins, although Paul got bitten by a mingy old toothless one because he was teasing him! Serves him right, but it's a good job he had no teeth. There were a couple of fun rides, but best of all was the fact that the park was so quiet we didn't have to queue for anything.
Rather amusingly, before the park opened (yes we were there early enough to join the queue of other keenos who'd arrived before the park opened) there was an announcement to "please stand for your national anthem". In response everyone around us took off their caps and put their hands on their chest and proudly looked up to an American flag as the anthem played. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, this
would never happen in England. Ever. It was quite funny.
In the evening we walked around the streets of San Diego, enjoying the vibes of the nice bars and restaurants that we can't afford to go in! We also watched some crazy UFO program on TV and made friends with a guy called Skyler from Arizona. Anything to avoid our room with the scary guy really!
Saturday 16th December Paul - Areeeeeeba! It's Mexico!!!!!!!!
Tijiuana, Mexico was our destination today and it was fabulous. We never wanted to leave, we wanted to go traveling in South America right there and then but unfortunately we have to be in New York by Christmas so we gave up that hope. We just LOVED being surrounded my a different culture all over it again. It was such a wonderful feeling. We'll just have to save South America for our next trip.
Anyway after admiring the over sized hats and donkeys for FAR too long we settled down for dinner. Being Mexico we both ordered two Tequila Sunrise's and burritos and tacos. It was delicious and (the best thing) CHEAP! We can finally afford to eat in restaurants again it was great. A few more drinks later and we stumbled out of Mexico and back into the US. Let's just say we were close to tears!

Tears on my pillow
Back at work. It should be illegal to have to go back to work after a holiday (I had 300 emails in my inbox. Mostly spam admittedly but I still have to sort through it all). Not sure how you two are going to cope. Me and Mark now offically think London is crap in comparison to New York. I'm so depressed. COME HOME!!
