Behold the Majesty

Some people might say this was a gorgeous view. Strongbad would say this was a gorgeous view. Beautiful Portola Valley from Colleen's and Geoff's.

Oh Man I Love The Cake!

Enter a place without sight or sound and you'll hear and see no evil. But the party was definitely not that place. Held in the picturesque town of Portola Valley at the home of my adopted auntie Colleen's and uncle Geoff's, the party was a smashing good time. I won't speak for anyone else, of course, but I had a lot of fun. What was not to like: most of my favorite people, good food (albeit something, I suspect a dish I made, gave me some serious gas today - prolific, yes; loud, yes; threating sharded pants, yes; violent, fortunately - nay!), and and good beer. Oh and cake and other goodies....mmm cake. I just love a bit of cake. CAaake! Cake!!! Well then...

Anyhoo, My "Go Away" party was a fitting title to my departure (from the school district, that is). It was the district's infamous anagramatical WMD - who when asked about sponsoring my Green Card said "I don't think it's possible." (Bureaucrat-speak translation: I'm overpaid, lazy, and not competent enough to deal with this complicated request, so kindly fuck off and die you dirty foreigner.) As

Moments later Geoff's seemingly unquenchable thirst would be satiated.
I left I thought I heard her say, "Do you smell back-bacon and maple syrup?" to her secretary, but I can't be certain.

For those of you on the list that may or may not know, I have planned to travel the world before returning to the Great Brown North, formerly of Great White North fame - thanks to global warming.

The current plan is for me to spend my first 6 months in Europe, travelling around for for of them and working in Denmark for the last two; then off to Australia/NZ; and finally to make my way northward to Japan via SE Asia and China. I must say though, recently I've been giving some thought to going to India immediately after my European adventure before making my way to the Land Down Under. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how I feel at the end of it all. But I digress.

However the district may feel, I have evidence that leads me to believe my friends and coworkers feel otherwise. It was a good turn out and I had a lot of fun bouncing about like tigger on speed

Alan and Derek doing their best impersonations of the Fonz
trying to spend a little bit of time with everyone. In this way, and in many others, the party proved a fine way to spend some time with those closest and dearest to me before my departure, which is approaching like a Japanese bullet train with a leadfoot driver. It's hard to believe just how quickly the time has driven by.

I guess when you're ambivalent about leaving, the time does not slow down for the approach of the new and exciting. I'll be sad to leave; although at times frustrating, my years here have been among the best in my life, and I'm sorry to let them go, but happy that I can do so, ultimately, on my own terms.

The best part about the whole event was seeing my friends exchange contact information with people that they'd never met. Yes, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. And so the legacy of Cory will live on in others. I just referred to myself in third person didn't I? Well, Cory is sorry.

More than anything else, this is a practice travelblog to make sure I've got it right before I'm

Sitting around the fire pit. I'm clinkiing glasses with Sue's O'douls. Unfortunately, their slogan goes down as one of the world's dumbest, since beer drinkers don't drink when they're not drinking beer.
