Left M's apt at 645am and reached the airport by 710am. After dropping us M dropped V at his apt. The 2 pieces baggage allowance mentioned in the ticket is not enough to convince the booking clerk. So we had to take one suitcase as cabin luggage and pay $25 for the additional suitcase for checking in. And the 2 body lotions bought by N were taken away from the cabin baggage. I bought Dunkin donut and strawberry collata for breakfast. 855 flt to Orange County. Reached by 10am. Then sent sms to Sridhar on landing. AJ and Sridhar came as we came out of the airport. This house is the first house that I am seeing in US with atleast some windows and doors open all the time. No heating or cooling system is on. ... read more

So its goodbye LA. A week longer than we planned to stay but good friends kept us company. So the short list of pro's and cons are. 1) They just can't do chocolate! White chocolate with Peanut Butter, Yuk! 2) They can't make a toilet door that fits the hole. 3) They can't do bread, biscuits which are scones to those in the uk but bread in US. 4) Apparently on St Patricks day you have bagpipes and men in kilts playing in the bars. Traditional Irish dont you know :-) 5) I must have put on 6lb in 2 weeks from all the excessive portion sizes. Pro's 1) Weather (even if it did rain!) 2) Old fashioned Ice Cream Parlours 3) Softball 4) Mountain Dew 5) Cactus Coolers 6) King Taco 7) Beaches with surfers ... read more

As I work through my long to-do list, what is it I'm trying to accomplish while away from family, friends, comfort and consistency? It all started with the need to build a house in Guatemala and has morphed into something bigger and more exciting than I could have imagined. Can I be spontaneous? (Yes, just give me a minute to plan everything first.) Can I live out of a back pack for months on end with three pair of pants and one tube of toothpaste? Can I work in the heat of the tropics and cold of Patagonia, in a tent with a 55 degree sleeping bag? Even if I find no answers, I've been given a wonderful opportunity and I'm taking it with both hands! The first order of business was to lighten my load ... read more

so i have been back in the USA for 1 month...well about a month. and i have been meaning to write a blog about the last adventure i had before heading back to the usa. well it was an unexpected adventure. i was supposed to leave prague on the 14th. and that day i left the hostel and got to the airport. since i am the biggest worry wart in the world, i got there way too early. that was ok. i sat around, bought some souvenirs etc. well finally when we were supposed to board the plane...on the loud speaker i heard that because it was foggy in london, we wouldnt be able to land there, so we couldnt leave yet....now panic began to set in. i was supposed to have a 1 hour lay ... read more

And so the traveling starts... we are not certain on our futures just as of now as we gallop off into the night Oh, well, we're not exactly "roughing it." A uniformed limo driver (faaancy!) came to collect us well before dawn as the rentals were celebrating a friend's birthday in Collingwood. Alas, the GPS is still sitting in the driveway, but thankfully that seems to be the only thing we forgot. The flight felt like half an hour, I slept comfortably as George watched movies (Air Canada has really spruced themselves up!) and soon we were peering curiously out the window at odd canyons and windy rivers dotted with totally isolated settlements. Then LA emerged from the desert, sprawling and stretching as far as it could. The flight over LA itself was 20 minutes! ... read more

Time for some R and R. The last 5 weeks have been very hectic and it has taken us a couple of days to get over our trip....I don't know what it's going to be like after a year! Great catching up with my cousin and his family. We don't see each other too often since he's been living in the States for the last 26 years. Fantastic meeting up with Lani again and catching up on all the goss. We haven't seen her since May so it was nice to hear about all her 'Summer Camp' experiences. This gal seems to fall on her feet. She was at a camp where the kids were only there M-F, 9-5. She started work at 11 each day, had evenings and weekends off, had accomodation and all meals ... read more

Well this is my first blog and I can't believe the trip that I've been talking about for a year is finally here! It's almost surreal, actually. I think that I finally have everything I need, now it's just an issue of packing it all up. It's still weird to think that I won't be in the country for four months, but I know that I am going to learn so much from my experience there. I'm excited to just simply be in the city and learn how Russians live. Russia is such a different world and I look forward to the affect it's going to have on me. It's going to be life changing and I can't wait to see how this journey affects my future goals and dreams. I am going to miss everybody, ... read more
