Phoenix and the kitty
Julie and Andreas kitty traveling with us to Earth Dance Last weekend we had an adventure to Laytonville, California to go to Earth Dance. Earth Dance is a big festival that basically plays music for three days straight. You camp out next to your car and then walk into the woods for the festival. We staked out a spot and had about 5 tents in a little village, with a canopy that was pretty essential, it was really hot during the days. There's some good Rainbow family love there, which was nice to connect with. We saw a lot of our friends from Rainbow and had wonderful lovey hugs.
On the way there I actually got a chance to meet up with my brother. He was going to go to the festival with me, but him and his crew got escorted out of Laytonville supposedly. I guess small towns don't take kindly to street kids. But I have a few pictures from that and the ride up.
There are several different stages and music dome/tents with all kinds of music like techno, reggae, funny chicks, and so on. I personally didn't do a lot of dancing, but I had a great time with the people I went with. I
Aussin
Our road trippin buddy love dancing, don't get me wrong...but I'm not always the up-all-night with crazy loud music, kind of gal. I went to bed pretty early every night, and spent a good deal of time at camp or in the meditation dome which had a lot of really calm vibes and some funky music.
We had a wonderful baby shower for our friends (that we met at Rainbow). Her name is Julie and his is Andreas - such beautiful caring people. They're from Germany so had no clue what a baby shower was...and she was SO pleased! We had gotten them a bunch of baby stuff and wrapped it before hand. Then when we got there we picked a date and time, and had our little camping area decked out with streamers and bubbles. After the shower we had an excellent Jam session (see the video for a taste).
You have to pay to get into the festival (huge difference between there and Rainbow), and the food and clothes and toys cost money. The cool thing is that half of the profits goes to a charity organization...which is probably a lot because the whole event seemed staffed by volunteers that
Golden Gate fog
The top of the bridge was clouded in fog. The flag's at half mast because of September 11th. got in free (who still have to pay for food and such).
It was neat that the food they had there was really healthy, hippy-esk food. Normally you see pizza and chicken fingers at festivals...here there were excellent tofu wraps, raspberry chocolate crepes, samosas, tons of really good food. There was also pizza too, but I bet it had vegan options!
By the end of the trip I was good and dirty and ready to go home to my comfy bed. It was definitely a great experience...if not for the music and little bit of dancing, then for the connections I made with the people I came with and new ones. I can't say I necessarily would recommend spending $160 on it, unless you are into camping and loud music and hippies...a LOT. But it was definitely an excellent time.
