Exhastment: -adjective- to describe the feeling one has upon leaving the theme park after a very full day.
We began our day by catching the shuttle bus from our hotel to Universal Studios at 8:30am this morning. A nice change from all the driving we have been doing! It was an early start after staying out late last night for wicked. Mostly for Christie who skipped her morning coffee. She really was not her perky self this morning. The girls loved the "kids suite" we had at the Holiday Inn we stayed in last night. A kids Suite which really is just a two queen bed room turned into a sutie with partitions, a set of bunkbeds and the kids own TV.
We went on the studio tour, which was a major difference from the Warner Brothers VIP tour from yesterday. The Universal studio or "back lot" tour as they call it does go through the back lot as advertised, but its more of a ride than a tour. They did have some neat things that the girls recognized including some cars from movies that they knew. A
good portion of their back lot has been completey destroyed by fire and it was appearant by the back lot tour. Will still thought it was fun to see all of that stuff.
The new ride at Universal studios is The Simpson's the ride. This ride replaced Back to the future ride and they basically re-themed the exact ride. It topped the list as a quick favorite for the girls. We rode and say just about every show and ride there which although fun was slightly dated for the girls. Some of the blockbuster favorites for Christie and I were movies the girls have never even seen like Back Draft.
The Day was getting really hot and we decided it was time to ride Jurassic Park because its essentially a boat ride and were confident that we would get cooled off. Kelsey was in a strange and inquisitive mood and kept asking all of these questions about every ride. How long is this ride? Does this have bugs in it? Does this go upside down? How wet will we get? etc. etc. etc.. When we got to the front of the line I asked one of the attendants,
"My daughter is deathly afraid of dinosaurs and I told her there were no dinosaurs on this ride will you please back me up on that?" they actually did and looked Kelsey dealpanned and said, "Nope, no dinos on this ride." Ha Ha
Well, karma struck back at me and on the final drop where the boat hits the water, we all got absolutely soaking wet. I dont mean we got a little water on us, or that we got splashed; we're talking about soacked to the core, wring out your shirt wet wet wet. We all were cracking up when we dripped off the ride.
We decided that we did everything at Universal Studio that could be done and we headed to Universal City Walk for some dinner at one of my favorite mexican places; Comacho's. we had a great dinner, and of course it was Chey's birthday again....this is the 5th one as we ordered room service last night for dinner and we forgot to celebrate it then... We are clearly slipping a bit (if you ask her..)
Then it was on to what would become the highlight of the day; iFLY Hollywood. For those
of you who do not know what iFLY is then this will probably be interesting. iFLY is aan inverted high speed wind tunnel where you can sky dive without the need for a plane and without the danger. You stand in a chamber in a flight suit and they send the wind through the tunnel at about 120 MPH and you wear a flight suit while you are supported by the fast moving wind and you essentially fly. Its the neatest thing to look at and I am sure to do it would be very cool. We got the kids each 2 flights (we had a 50% off coupon). They went into a training session where they learned about hand signals with the fliight instructor and then it was into the changing room to get into their gear. Flight suit (Check), Shoes (Check), Ear Plugs (Check), Goggles (Check), and Helmet (Check), we are all good to go. The kids were great and really listened to the instructor and did everything they were told. When they got off the ride I asked what their favorite thing of the day was and both without hesitation said, "flying for sure!" They just opened
an iFLY in the bay area for anyone that is interested in giving it a try.
We got back to the hotel around 9:15 and decided that a night swim was perfect for our aching bones and the kids adrenaline! Kels, Chey, and I went for a swim while Christie hung out in the room and got ready for bed, etc.. Were were being pretty quiet so the security guard let us stay in 15 minutes past closing. We got out about 10:15 and got ready for bed. Tomorrow we are off to the happiest place on earth....Disneyland! We are staying at the Paradise Pier and there is a pool with a huge waterslide on the roof. I can hardly wait!
Until tomorrow,
-Rob & Christie-
Huh?We have no idea who these people were, but people were taking their pictures with them so we thought we would do the same...We are such tourists!
