The plan for today is to take a tour of Beverly Hills. This tour was not the usual buy a map of the stars and drive yourself nor was it a big red tour bus. This was the latest high tech way to sight see--The Segway Tour.

After viewing the instruction video I was more than intimidated and thinking why am I doing this, real bodily harm can happen here?!? But our guide assured us that we will be fine. A short practice in the parking lot gave me a little bit of confidence and off we went negotiating the sidewalks and streets of Beverly Hills. It was soooo cool! The bumps and cracks in the sidewalks was always a hold your breath moment as was crossing the 4 lanes of traffic considering the drivers of LA.

Segway touring down the exclusive shopping streets of Robertson and Rodeo Dr. was pretty cool with people taking our pictures. Crusing past the Ivy Restaurant ( the #1 hotspot for stars) and into the old Beverly Hills neighborhoods seeing the house of Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio, Rita Hayworth and Dean Martin;s house whose wife still lives there, was pretty cool. Not like all the newer stars whose homes are hidden behind walls, these homes are right on the street and very much like regular homes.

The biggest disappointment of the day was going to the Grove and finding that Mario Lopez and the TV entertainment show "Extra " was on hiatus till July 11th.

Adam and I ate at the Farmer's Market and drove down the Sunset Strip with the famous bars, the Whiskey Go Go, the House of Blues, the Skybar, The Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory and the Viper Room, Melrose Ave., Whiltshire Blvd. and Santa Monica (Rt. 66).

We also visited the La Brea Tar Pits. I had never been there before and it was interesting to see prehistoric animal bones sticking out of this tar. And it smelled like tar and bubbling tar coming to the surface. And the gas prices are still high. The pits seemed a little low, maybe a little siphoning going on?? There were some places you had to be careful not to walk on tar.

Worried about the Segway Tour??? This is coming from the woman who paraglided in Lima and sandboarded down high steep sand dunes in Peru and Egypt, crossed six lanes of traffic in Cairo White water rafting in Ecuador, swam with school sharks beneath us in Gallapagos Is, swam with frisky dolphins in the Carribean. And travelled with me. Let's just throw in the planned trip next month with 96km on the Kokoda Track through the jungles of PNG. LOL

response to Francine
The difference here is that I had to watch a video and sign waivers. When doing all that other it was always the spur of the moment when my brain was not thinking only doing!!!
