2/3/2012-10/03/2012 So the surprise worked, Crystals reaction to us surprising her was "oh F..k!" so that meant pleased to see us right??? Well it took us 4 days to get over the get lag but now all is good. Food portions as to be expected are huge but we will never learn "just a small appetiser to start!". Took the local bus to the beach. Mmmmm didn't know that's where they kept the circus these days! Too many freaks in a confined space for me!! Huntingdon beach nice though, a warm 80 degrees to check out the surfers! That along with naughty seagulls in San Diego who literally emptied this ladies bag on the beach to eat the sandwich she had put in there earlier! We are now official reserves of the "unforgiven" softball team! I ... read more

Well, I made it through the gauntlet that was the final exam period here in Belgium. 3 looong weeks to prepare and execute written and orally defended exam questions for a ga-jillion courses. Although I was emotionally and mentally exhausted when I boarded my flight home from Brussels, I was more than ready for the warmth of both the sun, and lots of loving arms in CA. I was so blessed to spend 10 whole days in Huntington and Templeton/Atascadero, CA. My parents came to LAX during rush hour to pick me up Thursday, happy to brave the traffic to and fro. NOT! Once we arrived at home hours later, I enjoyed my first burrito (obv from Chipotle) in a few months. Duuhlicious. I unveiled the hundreds of waffles that I had smuggled home from the ... read more

Hello everyone, God we miss Bob the Beetle!! We've been on about 20 busses to get us up here and we've got plenty more to go before we get to Hollywood. We're also very conspicuous with our massive backpacks (and the fact we're the only none Mexicans!). First stop on our trip around the O.C is Huntington Beach, known as Surf City USA. We caught a Greyhound to Santa Ana and realise the directions we have are useless. Luckily a complete stranger comes to our rescue and shows us how to get there. As we're waiting for the bus, I go and get a drink of water. Clio is sat reading her book, minding her own business when I normal looking guy (or so we thought) comes over and the following exchange takes place: Guy: You ... read more

My apologies for the severe lack of timely updates. I’m hoping that once I’m caught up it will be smooth sailing!! I'm cheating and changing the dates of entry to around the dates the events actually ocurred so the time line of events is more accurate (even if the timeline of completion isn't!) The purpose of this blog is to keep our loved ones up to date on where we are and what we’re doing. Additionally, I will offer info and advice for other travellers as I have relied heavily on other travel bloggers for ideas and information, and would like to give some back to the travel blogging universe. So, this is where we started from: The Plan: Liquidate the very large stock of records and CDs filling our garage, pack up our most valued ... read more

What a place to wake up at, I opened the zip of the tent to bright sun, empty beach and great surf in front of me! We went down to the sea to wake up properly and saw black fins coming out of the water, not a shark, surely? Then we saw more and more and eventually we worked out that it wasn't sharks, it was dolphins! What a start to a day!!!! Then we headed south towards Redondo, stopping for some brekkie there before hitting Huntington Beach. We chilled on the beach before looking for somewhere to camp with no luck! In the end we stayed in a nice little hotel on the sea front called surfers inn. We had a BBQ on the balcony before heading out for drinks on the strip. ... read more

Day 113 We had a long overnight flight to LA and arrived inconveniently at about 2 in the morning. We weren't sure what to do really as it was too late to go and stay somewhere in LA and too early to turn up at the Rules house (one of the families who Tom stayed with when he was doing his football coaching the year before) in Huntington Beach. We decided to make our way to the hire car office to try and sort out some wheels and then make a decision from there. This wasn't as easy as we anticipated as the airport rental car offices weren't actually that near to the airport so we had to wait for AGES for a bus to come and collect us. Eventually we got our little motor and ... read more

Last night was a rough sleep! So many things rushing through our heads.... Did I grab the ipod charger? Yes. Ok. But did I grab the USB cable for the ipod charger. Yes. Ok. Now go to sleep. Then repeat this about 20 times and insert different objects that could've been left behind. Were excited but nervous for some reason! A little anxiety of the unknown but still....very very excited. This will be the last post from America, see you guys on the other side! -Kyle and Ari... read more
