We left the homestead a week ago just in time to miss wind, hail and rain, along with a mild earthquake in the geographical vicinity of Mt. St Helens.

We crossed the Columbia River into Oregon. Spent our first night on the road at Highway Haven RV Park in Sutherlin; a Passport America member park where we enjoyed a half price discount.

The next morning, we set out for Redding CA. What a beautiful drive for the entire day. Sure, there was some tightfisted steering over the mountains and curves; Grants Pass of Oregon and the Siskiyous of northern California. That night we stayed at Mountain Gate RV Park, several miles north of Redding.

On Wednesday, we entered the flatter, fertile California farm lands; the popular wine country of Lodi was our destination. We stayed two nights at Flag City RV Resort. Thursday, we met one of my online friends for lunch at a popular restaurant in Lodi. A fun meet-up with Lemoncello.

Before we left the homestead, our pup Shaddy was diagnosed with symptoms of early kidney failure. He was placed on some expensive medication that I can’t purchase on my Medicare prescription drug plan. Also, we have had to purchase some special diet dog food for him, which he doesn’t like. We are mixing it ¾ old food and ¼ new special food. After four days of refusing to eat any of it, he finally gave in and nibbles a bit of it from time to time.

On Friday, we drove to Bakersfield and spent the night at Orange Grove RV Park on the east side. We discovered this park last year and enjoy picking oranges from the orange grove.

Saturday morning, we set out for Hemet, CA; Golden Village Palms RV Park. Oh, the torrential rain and limited visibility for the last two hours of the drive. We finally made it to our destination where we will spend a week before heading southeast to Yuma, Arizona

We will be at Golden Village Palms for Thanksgiving week. You might ask how we can spend five months in rack and stack rv parks, in a space that is so small. Well, we looked at the weather report for back home, and it is dark, dreary, near freezing and wet. We spend enough time in the sunny, dry, warmer climate enjoying fun activites to make the trade off seem worth while.
