We're leaving this Friday! We're hoping you'll follow us along the way. Many of you have asked what we'll be doing, so......Here's our itinerary: Friday night, we'll be flying from SD to LA, into Brisbane and onto Cairns - arriving there mid-day on April 3rd... The very next day we're onto Papua New Guinea. There we hook up to go onward from Port Moresby to an island called New Ireland and to a surf camp called Rubios. That's April 4th until April 13th. On April 13 we hope to leave, and we say "hope", because as of now our flights have been switched, suspended, and overlapped, so we no longer have the connection we booked to another PNG island - New Britain. We'll either spend a night at the Walindi Resort or get there in ... read more

We have one more week at the beach. Two months has gone by fast. We have checked out the other beach parks and have decided that this is the best park to host at. So unless something changes, we will be back here next February and March. The only down side is the $1000 in gas to drive the motorhome here and back. Last week we became real tourists. We drove 16 miles north and took the San Diego commuter train from Oceanside to San Diego. It is a one hour trip and is right on the beach and winds through a beautiful canyon just outside of San Diego. We had a great lunch at a Greek restaurant and then took the train back. It cost $6.50 round trip for seniors. There is a large wetlands, ... read more

We started our second month on Thursday 4/1. The first month was really great. Some warm days and some rain, but NO SNOW. Here are some of the sneaky things that the campers have done. In the morning shift we work from 6 am to 1 pm. Our first task is to check for vehicles that came in the night before and didn't pay. About 1/3 of the sites have full hookups. Today we found 2 sites running long extension cords to the next site that had hookups but no occupant. We wrote them up and unplugged them. We went back about 1 hour later and they had plugged in again. I was told by the head Ranger that they can be ticketed for theft of government property. It seems that all fines are $68. If ... read more

Spring break has started and the camp ground was full last weekend. Weekdays are mostly full. We were prepared for calamity, chaos and wildly drinking teens. It didn't happen but our work has increased lot. The biggest change is the number of little kids recklessly riding their bicycles. My son was very slowly backing out of a parking spot at our site and almost hit one when the kid drove by him very fast. The kids co-riding friend watched in horror as his friend cut off the car. Oh Well!! There is also a state law that all persons under 18 must wear a helmet on any wheeled vehicle (bikes, scooters, skate boards). This is a tough one to enforce. We do not enforce, just inform. The gun toters (Park Rangers) enforce. Now that the campground ... read more

We are settling in to our 3 days on 4 days off followed by 4 days on and 3 days off schedule. There are 4 campground host couples. Only one, Van and Carol have worked at this park before. They are the lead hosts and are really trying to train us. Two others have worked at other parks and then there is Jan and I who look good in our uniforms. We have finished our training, but being elderly, we sometimes have to repeat a process a few times before we finally get it. Our end of the campground, which has the best beach access, is still closed for annual maintenance, but it will fully open next Friday, 3/19 for the first weekend of "Spring Break" season. I guess small quantities of beer are occasionally consumed ... read more

San Elijo State Beach is in the small beach community of Cardiff-By-The-Sea, which is in the town of Encinitas. The State Park is on a high bluff on the north end and slowly reachs sea level at the south end, which is where we are staying. Here are some photos of our Motorhome and the park The beach has suffered a lot of damage in the rain storms this winter. About 6 feet of one bank has eroded. The Life guard tower will have to be destroyed because of the erosion damage. ... read more

After we left Albuquerque, we stopped in Hatch for a great protest lunch (See Save the Pig). We then stayed 4 nights at Jeff's cousin's home in Tucson. If you know Tucson, Jeff's cousin lives a half mile from the east end of Broadway Blvd, across the street from the Saguaro National Park. Tucson was rainy and cool. When we arrived, their driveway was muddy and our 18,000 lb RV left some good ruts. Jeff racked the driveway while it was still muddy, because it turns to concrete when it dries. We made a rainy day trip to Tubac, a small artist town, about 40 miles south of Tucson and visited an amazing restored mission, San Xavier del Bac. It was completely restored a few years ago. PBS made a movie about the restoration process, which ... read more
