What a vacation! So blessed to have such a wonderful family. We started our vacation in San Diego during a heat wave, beach and pool fun with the cousins. We next moved on to Dana Point, more beach and a boat trip to Catalina. Lots of run ins with dolphins, at The Strands, a pod of dolphins were playing and maybe feeding right outside the waves! I saw a shadow of a dolphin ride a wave and we could hear them communicating under the water! So amazing! On the boat ride over on my dad's boat, we ran with some dolphins for awhile, again, so amazing to see these animals up close and in their habitat. Catalina was beautiful, swimming, snorkeling and paddle boarding. The camp site was quite a haul from the beach and town, ... read more

Hi Everyone!!! We left the house at 4am yesterday and we all woke up super happy and ready to GO!!!.Thank you so much mom for taking us to the airport and thank you for the hand made beanies you made for all of us to keep us warm, we will absolutely wear them and ALL love them. We got into Long Beach around 8am and headed over to Allison's apartment and met my new fur niece, Hadley, she is such sweet pup. Once we settled in and did more of the mountain of homework the kids have we decided to get out of the house, so we walked down to the beach. It was an absolutely perfect day and cannot believe what summer is like here. Once Allison got home from work we went to dinner ... read more

Mission of Discovery The Beach Last year I had an opportunity to travel with my Mom and my 14 year old daughter to the California coast. My sister and her family were spending 10 days in Dana Point for a conference so Mom, Ashley and I decided to catch up with them for some time at the beach. The three of us ended up staying in San Juan Capistrano and it was during a grocery hunt that I came across the old Spanish Mission. It looked interesting, so that Sunday morning my sister and her boys joined us for a tour of the historic grounds. The time in Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano made a real impression on me and I vowed to return someday to explore the area ... read more

We had nothing planned for the day and thought we would sleep in. What’s sleeping in for us? Waking up around 8:00am and taking it easy. We decided to walk up to Coliseum Grill for breakfast. Again, I was impressed with the staff’s uniform and appearance. Casual and yet professional, matching the turquoise color of the Coliseum pool. There were a few families around us. But in general, the restaurant was not full at all. After another hearty breakfast, we headed back to our bungalow. While Lauren was getting ready, I studied the map to find easy destinations around us. I also decided to go to Google Earth to verify the preferred destinations. I then showed my recommendations to Lauren and we decided to head out to Balboa Island, right off Newport Beach. Balboa Island is ... read more

Where should we go for our long Easter weekend? We talked about going to San Diego. Then we looked at Sedona which would be an easy drive away from Grand Canyon. Then I found out that Po would be in southern California for Easter. So a decision was made - let’s fly to Orange County and spend our long weekend with Po, Anne and Jimmy. We flew through Phoenix and arrived at Orange County airport on time. It’s easy to see why Southwest Airlines has grown so fast in the last decade. No hassles, no assigned seating, no elaborate penalties for changing your schedule, no cash on board. It’s a pretty easy way to fly once you get used to this Group A or B or C boarding process. Of course, there are still so many ... read more

We got together with some of our friends we've made during our stay in California for a little going away soirée. We have enjoyed our time in southern California, but life leads us else where. So thanks to all who could make it down for some sun, surfing, smores and burnt hot dogs. We will miss each and everyone of you.... read more

Note: these days have been combined into one not due to lack of activity in them, but because their was not really a clear deliniation between the two when we were doing them thanks to a rather sleepless night. Blog day 187 and 188 - Posted by Onaxthiel: I woke up with a face even more swollen than the day before. At the start, my left eye was almost completely swollen shut, and the right eye had begun to puff as well. I also seemed to have developed the same impetigo-like crusting that had characterized Obfuscator's earlier encounter with the reaction. Down to what was, in effect, .75 useful eyes in my head was a bit worrisome, so I called decided that if the problem hadn't started to get better by the next morning, I would ... read more

Obfuscator writes: Sometime during the last day, Onaxthiel's face had started swelling up, and by night he was looking rather familiar. It was almost like looking in a mirror from back when we were in North Dakota, and my face had swollen up to disturbing proportions, largely closing my eyes. By this morning, Onaxthiel's left eye was almost entirely shut, and his right was heavily swollen as well. Like before, there was no difficulty breathing, or anything else that might indicate allergic reaction, but there was little else that seemed to match the symptoms, and the pollen count we discovered, was quite high. Strangely, I was unaffected by it this time. Since he was so puffed up as to be nearly useless, Onaxthiel drugged himself with antihistamines, which left him in a drug induced comma ... read more

Well, everyone, I made it home safe and sound, and extremely tired. It sure feels good to be home with the dogs (who didn't miss me nearly enough - Kelly and Zach took such good care of them!) I'm all unpacked and it was a blast going through and organizing all my shopping goodies. I got some really cool stuff. I had a couple friends stop by today, and I am struggling mightily with jet lag. I'm trying my best to stay up until 10 p.m. I downloaded all my pictures, so I'm going to browse and add any cool ones I find, in no particular order. This will be my last post, so thanks again for all the time and positive thoughts you sent to me. Talk to you soon!... read more
