Haha...so it's confirmed. I am definitely crazy. Mt. Whitney kicked my out of shape self into reality. I am no longer fit or probably sane to be walking up mountains. Especially with winds blowing a billion miles an hour (okay, well, enough for the wind to pick up about 20 rocks and myself in my tent) at Trail Camp. For those who are thinking about this little trek, keep in mind that Trail Camp is completely exposed. Not the best place to settle down for the night. Brrr....not exactly my idea of a great time. *sigh* My fellow crazed camp mates stated that this was the first time after 3 summits that they had such a horrible time at this time of the year. Next time (if there is a next time), I know to go ... read more

However, driving a huge motor home through the steep, busy and crazy roads of San Fransico attracted some funny looks off some funny looking characters. John did great though and got us to a motel near the airport where we showered for the first time in a week! The next day we drove into downtown but the lack of parking mixed with the dodgey characters literally everywhere really put us off the town. Afetre the beauty of the reat of the states we didnit see anything of much interest in San Fransisco and we both just wanted to get on the coastal road for a gorgeous drive down to santa barbara. Santa Barbara was a wonderful spanish looking celebrity hang out. We found a gorgeous campsite on the beach where we stayed for a week! We ... read more

Hello everybody, first of all thanks for all your comments and e-mails wishing us a speedy recovery, they have been very much appreciated. We are getting better by the day; whoever stole my marbles has returned them pretty much as they were, the only changes are that I have a much clearer head (none of the old junk in there at the moment) and I have a tendency to hiccup now - hopefully that one will clear up! Vernon is still in pain from his cracked ribs, but it has improved to a dull ache unless he forgets and tries to lift anything. We hired a car today so we can get the bikes to Carol's place in Long Beach, where they will stay until we fly to New Zealand. We decided to go and find ... read more

Here's the one you've all been waiting for... 18/09/05 Bishop CA We set off early as we had a long distance to cover, made good progress, reaching Coaldale by 11 am, our biker friend was correct it is nothing but derelict buildings, the main reason it gets a mention on maps is because it is at the junction of Highway 6 and Highway 95. We turned onto the 6 and continued on our way. We had planned to stop at Coaldale for lunch, but as the riding was easy we pressed on, stopping at about 12.30pm for energy bars and Gatorade (lunch is becoming sooooooo predictable). As the afternoon progressed the riding became more difficult as we headed up hill towards the Montgomery Pass; before the actual pass the road had one last trick to throw ... read more

Today we woke some of us a little under the weather - but none more so than Kel who had to puke quite a few times before we left and twice while we were driving (once we had to stop for her and the other time when we stopped at a gas station!). Today was to be one of the hottest days I had ever experienced. We drove into Death Valley, the lowest and hottest part of the Western Hemisphere. The temperature ranged from about 45-50 degrees celcius when we were there. We had to drive for about an hour without the air con because its too hot and the car could have over heated. We went to Badwater, the actual lowest section which is about 280feet below sea level. The hold a marathon there in ... read more
