Well Pat and I have left San Francisco and we are in Big Sur.
Before leaving San Francisco we picked up our 4 x 4 and a tent and we then headed south on the Highway 1.
The Highway 1 is a coastal road and it is amazing.
We are now camping in Big Sur which is on the coast and is a massive forest. Unfornately just before Pat and I arrived 92% of the forest burnt down in forest fires or as the locals say "it got toasted".
We must however be staying in the 8% of the forest which was untouched by the fire as the campsite is fab and is in the middle of all the massive Redwood Trees and right beside a creek.
Although the location is fantastic our bed isn't! We are both getting into the whole camping thing and we have lots of little gadgets to make our life simple but Pat has insisted the last week that we don't need a campbed or blow up bed to sleep on and that 2 bottles of wine a night should be the tonic!!!
After a week of camping Pat has
finally come around to my way of thinking and has agreed to get a blow up bed as we may both end up in hospital soon with broken spines!! If I had my way I would buy a duvet and pillows but just getting Macho Army man to agree to a blow up bed was hard enough!!!
We have done lots of walks around Big Sur and seen loads of wild life. We have seen Turkey Buzzards and Condors and this morning we saw 2 Humpback Whales whilst out on a boating trip.
I came across a skunk the other night beside our tent, as I am no animal expert I thought it was a badger so began chasing it around the tent trying to get a better look, fortunately Pat arrived back from the toilet to find me running around the tent with a torch and when I showed him the "badger" he shouted "OH MY GOD JEN THATS A SKUNK TAKE COVER!!" Errm felt like I was in Iraq with him with that reaction anyway when I looked the skunk had lifted its tail and was about to squirt us with a very nasty smelling substance,
luckily I took Pats advise and I dived behind the tent!!
We have got a couple more days here and then we are going to get back on Highway 1 and head south towards LA.
Today we are in Carmel doing the tourist thing as this is where Clint Eastwood used to be Mayor!!!
