I got up early and did some laundry before we hit the road. Since we got out late, after a quick breakfast in the hotel, we set with a goal to get to our next destination, Memphis, early enough to visit Graceland. We got there about 3:00 and after checking into the Heartbreak Hotel, we walked over to see The King's estate. We got the audio self tour - and it was quite well done. Dawn broke...and the weather looked iffy right away: 100% solid overcast with occasional drizzle. The forecast suggested maybe a break in the afternoon, but the entourage advised the proprietess, "...we may be staying..." and confirmed that after breakfast and more weather reports. Watching the weather became an all-morning, eventually all-day, pursuit via a combination of phone to Flight Service, computer services, and channel-surfing the retail forecasts just for levity. This unique rock structure held a water tank in its upper level and supplied the lodge and cabins with drinking water. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
I’m beginning to get a taste of what I want RVing to be. Although I didn’t have much downtime today it was a leisurely day. I drove all of 105 miles and arrived at Petit Jean State Park (about an hour west of Little Rock) and was set up by lunchtime!
