I decided at 10:30am on Feb 13th to head to Arizona with most speed - I was going to chat with her over email at lunchtime, but found out that I had to catch the taxi at 11. I got on the taxi to the port at 11, the ferry to the mainland at 12:30, where I transferred to an overnight bus to Bangkok at 6pm which got me to Khao San road at 4:30am, and the airport at 5am where I managed to get onto the first United flight of the day at 7am to LA via Tokyo. I arrived [View Full Entry]

11hrs drive from San Diego is the Grand Canyon, we got there at about 7pm - we travelled along route 66. Stopped at a real live diner in a place called Needles. The Hungry Bear, and the big portions of food would have certainly attracted bears in Yosemite. The Canyon itself is about 5-6000ft deep and very impressive - I doubt the photos of it I have taken will do it justice - your sense of depth perception just gets totally screwed - every thing beyond a certain distance looks completely flat, 2D, like you could almost just step out right [View Full Entry]

Looking Down
The Grand Canyon Rim

For Spring Break my sophomore year some friends and I went to went to Arizona for spring break. We got a great deal at a real nice hotel on a golf course. We went to spring training baseball games almost every day, went to an NHL game, climbed camel back mountain, and of course went out on the town (it was spring break after all)! Jordan and I left from Eau Claire on a Thursday after class and we drove the rest of Thursday, all day Friday and most of Saturday. It was the first time that I had ever done [View Full Entry]

Lobster Time
Hangin' Out

In February of 1999, I took my Ford Econline E150 across the United States on my way to Santa Cruz, CA. The trip was filled with misadventures and mishaps, but the one destination that was far worth my while was my trip to the Supai Indian Reservation. An old college bud had spoken highly of his acid laced experiences in the area, and I had always taken interest in his exaggerations. No road leads directly to Supai, so the only way to access the canyon town is by helicopter or by trail on foot or horseback. Because of it's remote location, [View Full Entry]

When confronted with the name Arizona, most people will probably first and foremost think of the Grand Canyon. So when I visited Arizona, I naturally wanted to visit that famous Grand Canyon. But mass-tourism isn't exactly my idea of fun, so my host-family first took me to the Apache Trail. This largely unpaved, 120 kilometers long road runs through the Superstition Mountains, in the upstream-basin of the Salt River, in Arizona. It was built in 1905, for the benefit of the trucks that transported materials for the construction of some large dams in the river. It was never fully paved, since [View Full Entry]

unhappy
ready

As a child, we stopped briefly at the Grand Canyon. I remember how grand it was. The canyon seemed to go on forever, but more so, I knew it was deep, and I couldn't see the bottom. It seemed beyond life like to me, and I retreated to the safety of our car. Fast forward, it was summer of 1994, the year of my 20th high school reunion. Part of my vacation was to see old high school chums, the other part of my vacation was to tackle the Grand Canyon. I wondered what it would be like to hike this [View Full Entry]
