Southern California - Wilcox, Arizona
Today was the first day of my road trip. Needless to say it was an adventure. => I picked up my rental car early in the morning and was enjoying the day. I had hoped to be in Tucson, Az by mid afternoon. I stopped in Chiriaco ( one hour outside of Blythe, Ca,) when I locked the keys in the car. All I could do was laugh. I realized I had time. I am in no hurry and have no set schedule. Everything happens for a reason. I met some incredibly nice people because of it. I asked the man at the gas station if I could use his phone to call AAA. He asked me to go to the coffee shop next store. I asked a couple if they had AAA and they said yes. I then asked them for the phone number. The woman ran out to get her purse while her husband in the mean time, realized he had AAA's phone number on his cell phone. He quickly wrote down the number while his wife returned. They then asked if I would like some money to buy something to
eat while I waited. I said no, thank you. I would be fine. Not two minutes after they had left, the husband came back giving me $5. He was refusing to take no for an answer. They were so kind. He laughed and said great scam you have here. =>
Oooolalala.
As I waited for the AAA tow truck, I was approached by a man I had seen watching me earlier. He sat down at my table and quickly started talking. He asked my story. I just looked at him, I said excuse me, my story? He said who are you waiting for? I explained I was waiting for AAA. He said oh you broke down, I said no, I locked my keys in the car. He said would you like some company, I said no thank you. With this the manager of the restaurant came over. The man left. I started talking to the manager. He told me the story of the coffee shop. The original owners started the busines in 1927. He showed me photos. He had a poem written by the wife. I loved it so he gave me a copy. I will attach a
copy of it in my blog later, as it is in the car now. =>
The man from the towing company arrived an hour and a half later. He drew quite an audience around the car as he tried to open the door. He first tried from the passengers side , then the drivers side. I was getting worried. He then tried to retreive the keys from the seat and pull them through the door. This worked! It was now 2:00pm.
I'm having a blast. This is exactly what I needed to get me back into traveling mode. I have packed my backpack with my bohemian traveling clothes. I am in my element. I'm sure to meet lots of travelers on the way. I have dove into the tech world and purchased a GPS. I love it! I should have done this along time ago. Don't laugh, I know what you all are thinking. lol
As always I love and miss you all. I will try to update my blog as I go along. Peace and Blessings! Love, Jen
