Tomorrow is our last day in Desert Trails RV Resort. Our month long stay has been an interesting one. We had some truck problems which involved a lot of expensive repairs - 2 different times, a rental car twice and a lot of frustration dealing with the Ford dealership, but all is better now.
Getting back to life at the resort - there is an activity every evening in the Recreation Room. We made it to Karaoke one night, not to sing but to enjoy the music. We sat at a table with Larry and Nancy, folks who came all the time. They got up and did 'Running Bear'. If you remember the song it involves Running Bear who loves Little White Dove - they tried to get Ron to play the part of Little White Dove while Larry acted out the role of Running Bear and Nancy sang. So funny, but Ron had not had enough wine to join in that bit of entertainment. Then there was Roweena, the deaf gal, who dragged people up to the microphone to sing with her and then Yvonne who danced gracefully around the floor by herself doing ballerina kinds of things with
The King Trail
there is Tucson in the valley below her arms and hands. All in all it was an entertaining night for all the wrong reasons.
The Valentine's dance was a good time. If you let yourself step back for a short time and just look around at all the 60-80 year olds dancing to the music of our teen years it is a real eye opener. There are the guys stopping mid dance step to adjust their knee brace and couples just swaying to the music since they can’t do much more than that. Everyone glad that their kids can’t see them acting like teenagers again. It is best to stay in the moment and not think about how we all look.
The weather has been about 10 degrees lower than normal according to the weatherman. One day we had snow - enormous snowflakes - that stuck to the cactus and really looked pretty, but melted away very quickly. Most days are sunny and in the 60's which makes it very nice for biking and hiking. We are just a short walk from the Saguaro state preserve and go for long bike rides and walks there every day. Today we did a much longer hike in
the Canyon walk back
This is one example of the rocks we had to scramble down the Saguaro National Park - the King Trail. It was a hike that was up hill for 2 1/2 miles to a spot from which you could see all of Tucson in the valley below. We took our time and were passed up by someone actually jogging the trail and by other much older folks who left us in their dust. On the way back down Ron wanted to go off trail and walk the canyon back -that certainly made the trip back more interesting. There were lots of petroglyphs that had been chipped into the black desert varnish, evidence of much older cultures than ours living in this area. Also more rock scrambling than up on the trail.
For the next 3-4 weeks we'll wander through Arizona some more staying at these State Parks : Patagonia, Lost Dutchman and Cottonwood.

Good to hear from you
Sounds like your are still enjoying the trip. Keep it up. We just got over a heavy wet snow fall. The temps have gotten down to the mid-twenties and get into the mid-thirties. But the snow lingers. THis is no time to return home. Not yet!. Stay warm. P
