Smoke Trail follows stream. The cool trail.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!

Headed back north of Camp Verde today to do some hiking in Red Rock State Park. Started early when temperature was in high 70's because temps. have been up to 100+ the last few days. We started with the Kisva Trail followed by a portion of Eagle's Nest, Coyote Ridge, and Smoke Trail.

Barbara and I enjoy riding forestry roads looking for wildlife, so I picked up a forestry road map and went exploring. Did not have much luck spotting any wildlife, and decided it might be due to the heat. We rode forestry roads from Red Rock to Montezuma Castle near Camp Verde, about 35 miles.

Montezuma Castle is said to be the best preserved cliff dwelling in America. Built in a natural recess of a limestone cliff some 100 ft. above ground, the castle has five levels and 20 rooms. Although the National Park Service stopped tours through the rooms of the castle in 1951 because of structural damage by visitors and concerns about public safety, visitors are able to get very close from a paved flat trail.

Drove up to Jerome to have dinner at Grapes, an Italian restaurant recommended by new friends on train ride.
