Pulled out of Williams headed east to just east of Holbrook at Sun Valley. Snow is everywhere still. Called Kylie, the granddaughter; to wish her a happy birthday. Stopped by Meteor Crater, temp is 59 degrees and sunny at the Crater. The Crater is 3/4 mile across and 700 ft deep. Big enough that 24 football games could be held in the bottom and 2 million spectators could still fit in the Crater.

Continued to the Root (their spelling not mine) 66 RV Park - Yuck!! Not very good for big rigs, the front end of the rig is out in the road. They only had like 2 or 3 full hookups and we could fit in none of them. We have water and electricity. Just a place to spend the night at $16.30 a night. It IS located 17 miles from The Petrified Forest National Park. For a place to pull in, visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest, get back to the RV, spend the night and leave the next morning, it was ok.

The Painted Desert with its different color bands in the sides of the gorges and canyons was really pretty. Check out the pictures. The Petrified Forest was awesome. The trees did not actually originate where they lay now. The fell somewhere north and drifted down to their current location, were buried in the silt. Over time the silica and other minerals replaced the wood fiber and petrified the wood. Some of the logs had really awesome colors - red, blue, orange, yellow, and such. Some were really brilliant colors.

Had leftover gumbo & crackers at Jack and Barbara's. No TV reception, so went to bed and read.
