We went to see the Circque de Soleil Love Show last night. It was FANTASTIC! Based on the Beatles songs, it was fast moving and dramatic with acrobatics, dance, skating and high wire sequences There was so much going on -on stage and above in the roof it was difficult to know where to look. We wished we could go back and watch it again tonight to check out any bits we missed. The costumes were part 60's and70's and part fantasy. I think the most amazing sequence was the high wire act to the song Lucy in the sky with diamonds when a girl dancer/acrobat swooped from a star spangled roof and danced/flew hanging from a bungy sort of rope. Truly amazing and totally indescribable. Bob kept knocking my arm and pointing, he was speechless.
I think the Las Vegas experience is something we shall never forget and despite intial misgivings we have all enjoyed it. We have not bet a single dollar or bought any overpriced tat (well I did buy a Ventian mask and some foot plasters for my sore feet!) despite Vegas best efforts to get us to spend, spend, spend. It seemed every path ,walkway
and corridor lead you to yet more expensive extravagance or to food!
The mirage hotel had 3,400 bedrooms and we thought it was big but some of the hotels had over 5,000 bedrooms.
Despite the teeming streets ,bars, hotel lobbies, gaming halls it was spotless and I watched teams of employees dusting ,polishing ,hoovering and weeding the indoor gardens at all times of the day and night.
We were also amazed to see people playing the tables at 6.30 in the morning and apparently all night. They must be very rich!
We woke early to try and leave Las Vegas before Memorial Day celebrations got underway.
It was also cooler then around 75 degrees farenheit.
The journey to Grand Canyon is fairly straightforward and through desert scrub most of the way. Although when you looked closely the scrub and plants change quite subtely as the altitude and soil changed.
A four and half drive got us to the Grand Hotel in Grand Canyon National Park. We unloaded our luggage and went to get our first glimpse of the Grand Canyon. The canyon is a mile deep and it is very difficult to get
the scale of it into your head even whilst looking at it!
As it is Memorial Day and a holiday we were with a million others! We are going back a bit later to see if it is a bit less crowded and cooler.
After a splendid Pizza at a local restaurant we went back to the Grand Canyon to see it in the setting sun, which highlights all the strata and colours in the rocks. Still 74F at dusk despite being at an altitude of 7,000ft. On the way back from the Canyon we had to stop several times because of the elk in the road. Dinah managed to get some photos although it was by now getting dark. When we arrived back at the Hotel there were more elk in the car park, alongside a busy road.
Tomorrow we are off to fly around the Canyon in a helicopter quite early.

The photos are great. Give A&V a big hug from me. Corrie x
