Phoenix to Grand Canyon

We made lots of stops along the way, those aren't reflected on this map.

We left Tucson and headed north to visit Fran near Phoenix. We decided to camp north of the city and camped at Lake Pleasant. It was a very scenic place to camp with the spring flowers coloring the hillsides. We had a lovely couple of days visiting and touring the area before heading further north to Camp Verde. There we visited Kris and Jake. We had a great time visiting and taking excursions to see Jerome, Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona.

The last time we were here was about 15 years ago. There have been some changes since that time, but not with the awesome views. The new shuttle system, at least to us, was convenient to use to get around the park. We hiked down the South Kaibab trail to Cedar Ridge. This time the weather was pleasant and the gentle breeze was welcomed. The only mishap was near the beginning of our hike when my foot slipped out from under me when I stepped on some loose rocks/soil. Fortunately I just suddenly sat down on one of the rough hewn steps. It's important to know what to do when meeting a mule train on the narrow path. George is doing the correct thing by standing quietly on the inside of the path until the entire group of mules have passed.
but a wonderful woman came to my rescue with some hand sanitizer that she had in her pack.

California Condors have been reintroduced to the Grand Canyon and we were lucky enough to see some. They have a 9 foot wing span and are awesome to see gliding on the thermals. We saw 2 on our hike. The first one was high and we couldn’t confirm that it was a condor until we uploaded the photo and enlarged it. The next one came overhead suddenly and lower, but there wasn’t time for any pictures.

I volunteer to take pictures of people together. George and I are so seldom in pictures together, that I think it's fun to offer that opportunity to strangers.

This is spot where I chickened out 15 years ago. No problem this time, but the winds were much calmer.

I'm supposed to be pointing to where we liked to, but it's actually lower than my finger.

He's watching the road. He's a wonderful mellow dog and a good companion.
