So after a 23 hour journey; leaving heacham at 7.30 am and arriving in Flagstaff at 11.30 local time, I have finally arrived at project base camp. First impressions of Arizona were that it was very HOT, still over 35 degrees by 5.30pm, cooling down to about 10 degrees by the time i got to the apartment in flagstaff.

The accommodation looks OK so far, 4 to a bedroom and i am on a top bunk :/ I am sharing with an American named Sean who left this morning on a 3 week project, a German called Florian and i am yet to meet the other person as he is away on project at the moment. There are about 15 other people in our apartment with a good mixture of nationalities: German, British, American, Dutch, French, Italian, Danish and maybe some others (people are away on projects at all different times).

Today the newcomers had orientation which was long and boring but necessary to get everyone up to speed with what was going on. The majority of the talk took place in Buffalo Park in the shadow of Mount Humphreys which looks spectacular, so at least the scenery made the afternoon worth it. After this we went shopping for project equipment and food at wal mart so i am now all set for tomorrows safety orientation before everyone's first project begins on Tuesday. All the new arrivals are going to Wupatki which has ancient native Indian ruins. National park website

Looking forward to that and will blog on that either Friday or Saturday and will hopefully be able to upload some pictures too....
