Sunday morning around 3:00 the wind came up strong and woke us. Then the rain started again. We finally managed to get the camper dried and folded up and got on the road by a little after 9. It was cloudy and rainy all day, so no views of Mt. McKinley again.

We drove through Fairbanks, stopping at the Walmart there for groceries. We then went to North Pole, AK, where we bought postcards to send to the little folks and some Christmas ornaments. Then on to Eielson AFB where we stayed at their FamCamp and did laundry.

Monday morning the skies are clear, so we head back to Fairbanks in hopes of seeing Mt. McKinley from UAF. We got there and could see lots of mountains in the Alaska Range, but McKinley was as elusive as ever, hiding behind clouds.

So back on the road (Richardson Hwy) to Delta Junction where the Alaska Highway ends at mile marker 1,422. We stopped at the visitor center there and took some pictures and bought postcards. Then on the Alaska Highway to Tok, staying at the same campground as we did 10 days ago. We had planned to go on

It's a long way to Miami from here
to Border City, but the campground there was closed due to the heavy rainfall of the last few days. The rain put out the forest fires, but made the campground too muddy. Those patches of gravel on the Alaska Hwy are going to be messy and rough tomorrow.

Kerry is out of his boot, his torn Achilles tendon is much better and he’s walking better every day. The only problem is that his shoes don’t match. He bought new shoes just before he hurt his Achilles, and after wearing only one of them for 5 weeks, the one is dirty and the other is clean.
