Spent the day in Alaska's state capital - Juneau. The weather hung in around 56 degrees & the rain was coming down fairly consistently in the morning. From the airport, we rented a car ($89 per day + tax -- ouch!) to help get around quickly & efficiently. Our first stop was Medenhall Glacier - as it was nearest the airport. After a quick stop at the Ranger's Station and walking int he rain, we opted for lunch.

Downtown area was very small & quaint... very picturesque! Took in a great Fish-n-Chip lunch down at the Wharf Mall. We witnessed the arrival of a HUGE cruise liner coming into port. Our waitress gave us a city map, so we decided to check things out. As I said before, it was small & quaint. I fact, "streets appear bigger on the map" is what I would add ;-) Head up the streets in drizzle to St Nicholas Russian Orthodox church, and a couple of the side-streets. Had coffee & GREAT pastries at the nearby bakery , visited shops, and took a bunch of pictures before heading back out to Mendenhall.

or 4:30 pm, and the rain had ceased. We were able to get a couple really good shots in before looking for a place to grab some kind of dinner. Our flight to Anchorage was later that evening. We took a quick detour to the Brewery looking for a bite to eat - only to find out that it offered samples only. At the Travel Lodge, we found a Mexican place that was offering a real deal (and I say this tongue in cheek...): "1 taco/burrito/enchilada with rice & beans for $13.95" This was the FIRST time in my life that I have ever ordered hamburger at a Mexican restaurant :-(

Our flgiht touched down at Anchorage around 10:30pm. Dragging fanny since being up at 4am, we were ready for bed. Thankfully, Anchorage had sun that day. It was very weird to see the sun still up at 11pm!
