Went strawberry picking this morning with Matt, Tammi and Alex out at a local
farm. It is the end of the season and slim pickin’s! The farmer did not charge us
for the bucket (about 2 lbs worth) as he said it was nice to see three
generations doing things together. We also bought some fresh blueberries and
peaches. Fresh fruit is one thing we can't get much of on the trail.
We toured the area of the Enterprise, AL tornado strike. The tornado that hit
the high school was in the city where our son's family lives. The school is across
the street from their church. Our son was two of the boys who died there’s Sunday
School teacher. The selectiveness of this type of storm is baffling. We saw one
house that used to be a two story home. The entire second floor was gone down to
the floor boards. Matt said that after the storm passed there was a bed left
sitting on the second floor. It was right where it had been before the rest of
the building was taken, blankets, pillows and sheets remained on the bed just as
it was left that morning after being made. One home was leveled, all the
material from the home was scattered over a wide area and all that was left was
the concrete pad. That and the riding mower sat on the corner of the pad that
was once the garage. One home would be destroyed, the one right next to it would
be without a scratch or missing a single shingle. There were dirt lots where entire homes had been destroyed and have
been removed, while the next lot over the home only needed a bit of siding
replaced or some tree branches removed.
The drive down to Florida was nice. We have gotten afternoon rain storms both
days we have been here in AL. Nice to not have been walking or in our tent
during these things. Very high winds and about an inch or two of rain in less
than a hour.
Nice supper and games played afterwards at the "Outlaw In-laws." We always have
a nice time when we visit Matt's in-laws in FL. Graduation is tomorrow and we are
all looking forward to the ceremony.
