Hola amigos!!! We have been in Mexico just over a week now and have been having a brilliant time except our stomachs which have taken a bit of time to get used to things over here! We arrived in Mexico City first which is so big and so busy it makes London look like Alfriston. However, Rich has been getting incredibly excited as VW beetles are everywhere and are also the taxis. So on the first day we went to the Anthropology Museum by, yeah you guessed it, beetle taxi! It was like watching a kid in a sweet shop. After our fix of culture and history we headed to a park with a big lake and saw pedalos!! We could not resist and a little bit of rain was not going to put us off so we put on our life jackets and off we pedalled. As we were looking around we realised the only other people on the lake were oversexed Mexican teenagers snogging each others faces off! As we looked around the edge of the lake we just saw Mexican couples wrapped round each other and joined at the mouth. Yep, love is in the air over here
and they are not shy about it in the slightest.
On our second day we ventured to Centro Historico for more history and culture (thats the kinda couple we are) and got a lot more than we bargained for. We were standing in the Zocalo (main square) absorbing the atmosphere and admiring the wonderful architecture when Rich pointed in the other direction with his mouth wide open. Low and behold, hundreds of people were cycling round the square as part of a protest with a police escort. That may sound trivial but these people were completely naked!! I told Rich to put his pants back on and stay where he is whilst I took some photos of this hilarious sight. That night we met the rest of our group who we will be travelling with for the next two weeks. There is another couple from the UK, a couple of Kiwis, 3 Americans and 7 Aussies and everyone is really nice. So the first night it was out for some enchiladas and a couple of Coronas.
We also went to Teotihuacan which are some huge pyramids on the next day. The Pyramid of the Sun was massive so
Kerry wimped out and stayed at the bottom whilst Rich ran up the hundreds of steps like a trained athlete. After Mexico City we went to Puebla, however we did not do too much as all those chillies must have caught up with us so we slept for a day and a half whilst dosing up on antibiotics. Next stop, Oaxaca (pronounced like her-wack-er if you say it really quickly!) which is a beautiful place and so have spent a lot of time wandering around the town and the markets. We also went to a petrified waterfall made of minerals which was so lovely with gorgeous pools to swim in. It was boiling and as we are over 2km above sea level we burnt much quicker than expected - whoops!! Today we went to Monte Alban, some more really old pyramids and are now preparing for an overnight bus to San Cristobal de las Casas this evening which we are really looking forward too!!!
Thats all for now folks, we were going to put on more photos but this lot has taken us hours so for now, hasta luego amigos!!! Take care everyone and hope you are all well,
lots of love Kerry and Rich xx
