Pearl with Sunday School class
la senorita Perla fit right in with the other ninos. It's Sunday, June 16, 2013 - Church in Mexico. We worshipped at Mark and Karen's church "La Samaritana Buena" the Good Samaritan. We met Pastor Edgar and his wife, Alma, and their kids. We also met Eneida, who works at the Center, and her kids - Alexia, Rodrigo, y Zabie. Pearl and Zabie were fast friends - both 2 and 3 years old. Pastor Edgar preached about Joseph, Mary's husband, being a good father who loved God and obeyed him. It was really great to be worshipping all together on Father's Day, but what's even extra cool is that Geoff and Kai and I had just learned about Mary's husband last week in Youth Group. Our summer 5th/6th Grade Youth Group series is "Unsung Heroes from the Bible". Last week I chose Joseph, Mary's husband, to teach the kids about how Joseph believed God, listened to God and obeyed God. And then just over a week later we're in Puerto Penasco, Mexico hearing Pastor Edgar preach about the same man and what an obedient, righteous father he was! How cool is God?! Edgar also asked if any of us had taken the time to wish our Heavenly Father a Happy Father's
Day - what a good reminder!
After church Mark and Karen took us to a great Chicken place. Martin served us and we ate and ate. Unfortunately, Geoff decided to take a picture of the food AFTER we had eaten most of it! 😞 It really was delicious! Fresh tortillas, fresh salsa, cabbage, onions, beans, baked potatoes, Chicken, and watermelon. We got to know Sean, Richard, Eneida and Alexia and Zabie, and Mark and Karen better. A soccer game was on and that was a big deal, too.
We were eager to get back to our condo and check out the beach and ocean. We weren't expecting Vendors to come right up to our patio and try to sell us bracelets, earrings, skulls with favorite team bandanas painted on them - lots of different stuff. We said, "No Gracias." Although one man, Benny, was really nice and knows the owner of our condo. He said he's part of the JW church here. He showed us his black coral braceltets and can make any animal the kids want. Pretty cool! We went "swimming". Peal and I played in the shell beach and water, while Geoff and the big kids
jumped the waves and body surfed. All the heat and salty water swimming means more showers and hair brushing for the girls - uh oh, poor Mary! - Royal Fit #5 or 6?? 😊
We ate dinner at COMBO TACO where J. and Geoff had eaten last year and it was yummy. They had deep fried shrimp and fish tacos with coleslaw, onions - the works and tons of sauces to put on them. All the toppings were optional so the kids had plain tacos and Geoff and I had fun trying lots of toppings. The shrimp ones were the best! Then off to the boardwalk. We checked out the nightlife at the boardwalk. There was some music and dancing, lots of vendors, and food. We even found Thrifty Ice Cream. Where Geoff got to eat Pearl's Bubblegum ice cream cone because she decided she didn't like it after she insisted on having to have it.
Before bed Geoff read 2 Corinthinans 5:11-21. We talked about being God's ambassadors wherever we are and sharing in God's ministry of reconcilliation. We prayed to have more humor with ourselves and each other - not to take things so seriously and
to have more of God's grace.
