WOWZERS, WE ARE MARRIED! So after the wedding of our dreams - well mine anyway - we needed a relaxing break away from the stresses of seating plans, song lists and all that other stuff you have to do to organise a wedding. It was time to enjoy being newlyweds! So we jetted off to a posh all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico. Not our usual holiday style I know but what a relaxing week we had!
We arrived to welcome drinks and after some trouble with the room key we finally made it in. Our first night at an all inclusive restaurant was a bit over the top. We ate and drank everything we saw, feeling like we had to at least "try" each dish. Luckily after a few meals we calmed down and ate sensible portions (well a bit more sensible...)
We had a few things in mind that we wanted to do whilst in Cancun, one of which was to swim with Dolphins. We went along to the rep meeting where we found out about a package where you get to swim with dolphins, manatees and sea lions. Since it was our honeymoon we decided to
treat ourselves to it and have the full experience. It was well worth it - we got a lot of time in with the dolphins and did all the tricks with them. I think i was the only one who screamed when I was pushed out of the water though, I cant believe how much power they have, you go so fast! I loved the swim with the manatees, they were so gentle and sweet. They had their babies in with them too and when their curiosity got the better of them they ambled over to be stroked and eat lettuce from our hands. Then we were met by Robbie the incorrigible sea lion. Such a show off but we enjoyed watching him before each having a smelly kiss from him, the flirt! It was a great trip and it was lovely too see that the animals are all kept in good conditions and are healthy and treated well.
The other trip we did was a visit to Coba, one of the Mayan ruins. We had a guide for the day and were part of a tour group which we would never normally do but we decided to embrace
the package holiday style fully and actually quite enjoyed it. We had a go at climbing the Pyramid of Nohoch-Mul, Jed made it further than me. Its not the going up that's the problem, it's the coming down. I always feel like I'm going to lurch forward for some reason. We also visited a Mayan village which was not so fun. The tourists have turned the children in to beggars and were practically mugged for their gifts as they stepped off the coach. We wandered around a Mayan home, feeling a bit like intruders and saw some of the village which was very simple and interesting. Our final destination for the day was the Cenotes which is a deep fresh water lake connected to an underground river. I'm usually wary of crocs in these types of place but there were some very fat people getting in too so I thought if I was a crocodile I would probably go for the bigger meal. The water was pretty cool but it felt refreshing after a long hot day. We had a float around then headed back to the hotel for another whopping meal.
The rest of the honeymoon was spent
relaxing, sunbathing, swimming, taking the bus in to town and eating and drinking far too much. I don't feel as if we saw much of the real Mexico but we had a lovely time and would love to come back to travel the country properly.
