Hola amigos!!
We know that many of you have been longing for our first update =) Well, here it is...
We started our trip almost 2 weeks ago in Mexico City!! Spent a few days at the cool Hostel Amigo. Walked around the big park and old beautiful buildings and enjoyed tacos and som tequila. At our hostel we met Juan who was born in Houston by his mexican parents. Together with him, his brother Rodrigez, sister Sandra and cousin Omar we took the bus to a small remote village in the mountains called Luvianos to celebrate their grandfathers 74th birthday 😊 Lots of good traditional mexican food, tequila and a lot of mexican-style-dancing and singing made it a great experience!
When we returned to mexico city we made a daytrip to an aztec-city and the Teotihuacan-pyramids. Had a cactus and tequila lunch before we climed up the tallest pyramid! Wohoo!!
Feeling pleased with mexico city we jumped on the bus to Guadalajara, Mexicos 2nd largest city of 8 million. A beautiful city with a lot of historical buildings and a BIG market! We hung out with Tomás who we met working at Gothia Cup this summer. He
guided us around town and introduced us to traditional food from guadalajara. Since he is a trainer for the Chivas soccer team we also got to see the club and meet his coworkers, some which we met in Gothenburg before.
In Guadalajara we were chatting to Juan who had invited us to visit him in Houston, Texas. We thought this sounded like a fun idea, especially since it'd give Jen a chance to make her first visit to the states! Feeling like we wanted to do something spontaneous we told Juan and his brother that we would be arriving the next day... 😊 Arriving in Texas we were hit by the warmth, it turned out to be more than 30'C, so HOT HOT HOT, especially for two Swedes after a cold summer. The weekend in Texas turned out to be a lot of fun! The brothers introduced us to a lot of their really nice friends, and we got a good feel of Texas; the big trucks, the country music and a nice lifestyle. We went out in the evenings, and during the day we chilled by Junior´s pool, or went to the beach a few hours away. The
last evening we tried to cook everyone a typical traditional Swedish meal; meatballs and potatoes, of course followed by "kladdkaka"..😊 After that we tried to find a typical Texas country bar so we could see and learn line dancing and two-step, but the only one we found was a gay country bar, which the guys weren't too keen on... 😉 We ended up at Junior's friends´ house; Suzy and Jorge, and they were nice enough to teach us some dances, both Texas style and Mexican.
Even though we'd only spent a little more than a week in Mexico before coming to Texas we really appreciated a little break, eating somethings besides tacos ALL the time (which might come as a surprise to our friends who know how much we love tacos and always want to eat them at home), throwing toiletpaper in the toilet, and not have to pack our bags every morning to move to a new place. We had a great weekend, mostly thanks to all our new nice friends who took care of us! Still we were excited about beginning another part of our Mexico travels, moving on to the sunnier part of the country!
Back in Mexico and Cancun we enjoyed a swim in the turquoise water and the evening plans was to have dinner and go to bed early, but our plans changed when 2 crazy New Yorkers joined us for dinner. Rick and Ken took us out for a wild night dancing on high stages and out on the street in a “carnival train” with lots of balloons and drinks of tequila (of course). The best part though was when we danced with an 80 year old man on the street in the rain. He “danced” barefoot doing some really weird moves. Before going back to our cheap hostel we checked out the pool (or the 20 pools) at the Hilton =)
Now we stay in the lovely village of Playa del Carmen, mostly for working on our tan (which haven´t appeared yet) and snorkel the beautiful reefs that are among the nicest in the world apperantly! VIVA MEXICO!
Take care at home!! Hugs & Kisses
