Ola friends, sit back and listen to our tale of The Last Days in Mexico ..
MOSQUITOS! MOSQUITOS! MOSQUITOS EVERYWHERE !!!!
That out of the way, Playa is truly a great place. Not quite a paradise, as a paradise is reserved for those very special places, but a tropical tourists dream. The roads go on right into the sea, whitesand beaches, almost clear water, coral reefs and whatnot. Our hotel was a bit pricey, but the pool was propper nice, big and deep at the right places, and the restaurant served reasonable food, most of the time.
The beach was as we wanted it to be in Tulum, warm, sunny and not super-crowded. The room cme with a remote controlled fan, which in itself was pure luxury after the cabańa adventure. The city is ofcourse pure turist trap, with the most aggresive sale pitches so far encountered. Never trust a friendly mexican, lest he takes you to a shop. The entire town is one big shopping strip, selling all possible and sometimess impossible mexican crap, filled with american (cruises) and italian (who knows) turists.
So we spend our first day at the beach and the pool, drinking,
dining and enjoying the last days. The second day, we ran into Gareth, Ofer and James a.k.a the Hurricane Survivors 2007. Guys wanted to drink, so we went down to Seńor Frogs to see what the hype is all about. Seńor Frogs sucks, so off we were to the beach, where we got into a club, drinking, talking and some of us dancing, Mie acting a chic-finder for the guys. But we managed to find our hostel.
The next morning we had booked a snorkling trip, and atleast one of us was really hung over. But because it was raining all day we dicided to do the trip the following day. Instead we ran into a german couple we had met before, Alex the Windowseller and Julia the Teacher, with whom we did dinner and some beers. Great guys!
The next morning the sun was shining so we did the snorkling tour. It was just us and a Italian girl, doing an 1.5 hours of reef, great schools of fish and water up the nose, a cheap and enjoyable experience. That day also provided a visit to Wal*Mart to see what the epicenter of human evil looks like.
At last the time for departure had come, so we spent our remaining time buying sweet mexican crap for presents, and off we were to Cancun. Playa del Carmen is a nice place, worth visiting. Not a very mexican experience, but still very enjoyable. The departure was sad, bye bye: happy mexican beach and soon hello: sad danish weather.
Hang in there until next time for: Cancun and Conclusions..
