Punta Sur
On the south end of the island Hope this blog finds everyone healthy and happy! We've heard the weather at home has been incredible. That's awesome!! Hard to believe. We have had a quiet week just puttering around doing our usual island stuff.
The island is just hopping right now due to Semana Sanata (Easter). Groves of Mexicans from the mainland are here to celebrate. The holiday extends from the week before Easter and the week after. The majority of Mexicans are catholic so Easter is an important time for them. The beaches are just packed wtih Mexican families enjoying themselves. They brings pots of ceviche, taco fillings, gauacamole etc. and coolers of drinks and just plop themselves down for a day of fiesta!! Tourists like us are dwindling in numbers as the high season draws to an end. We were talking to some bartenders who were telling us that they don't really care for Easter as the Mexican people don't generally buy food and drink instead bringing their own thus not much business for the beach workers. However, they do buy popcorn, peanuts, cotton candy and water toys!!
We had an interesting chat with a family from Monterray. The dad said they had saved for
a long time for their holiday to Isla and were really enjoying themselves. He appreciated practising his english with us which was quite good. He said they like living in Monterray and love living in Mexico. We have also noticed most of the Mexican people appear very happy and content.
