There wasn't much more to it really.
After our taxing five days in
San Agustinillo, a tiny place on the west coast of Mexico,
(as you can imagine we found it a tough place to be. Tremendous to be back on a Pacific beach), we spent 1.5 days checking out
Mexico City, a much cleaner, safer, groovier and more exciting place than I expected.
A great city that is well worth a visit. Many very different neighbourhoods and a city with lots of old world charm and very tasty bbq chook. While all the museums and galleries were closed our full day there, we made the most of the Turibus heading through the key suburbs, stopping for a wander and lunch in trendy Polanco, then headed to Coloacan the next morning to visit the house where Frida Kahlo was born, lived and died. It was a great place filled with household
items from her and, her husband, Diego Rivera's life, including some paintings (e.g. an unfinished one of Stalin), political books, etc.
As with everywhere we go, we sought out some great meals too, with breakfast at Cafe El Popular, that was deservedly so for it's "strength to taste" coffee (i.e. you say 'when' as they pour espresso coffee into a big glass, and then they fill the rest with milk), great 'revueltos' (scrambled eggs) with hot salsa and chorizo, and another, "mexicana", with onion, chilli and capsicum, then, the next day, molletos (pieces of bread with refried beans and melted cheese served with chopped fresh tomato, onion, capsicum and coriander). Yum. Yum.
Our first dinner was noteworthy too - 1/4 of a very tasty BBQ chicken (claiming to be the best in Mexico), with potatoes or rice and chilli sauce .... all for an even tastier price of the equivalent of $3 each. Finally, we had the requisite taco degustation at the "Salon de Corona" - regular mince, some strange mexican plant I would have remembered if it was worth seeking out again, pork, and some others, all of which were overshadowed by the quesadilla, which was divine!
I'll leave the photos to elaborate further ....

Pollo anyone? No wonder the chicken was great in Mexico. These guys look healthy!

Record of the big dayOur flight from Mexico went back through Florida. It was the day of Barrack Obama's inauguration, and the newstands were a historical monument
