Sorry that we havent had an entry on the blog site for a while. Mexico City was great not what I expected at all. I imagined the population of Australia put into one city and that was a scary thought. It is just like Melbourne (but older) but it goes on forever and forever. Saw all the sites and toured around on a double decker bus with a bunch of school kids. I thought the highlight was a French guy (guapo- very handsome) chatting me up but no it was out done by our departure at the bus terminal. It is their Holy week (week before Easter) so the streets were very quite but we were to find out they were all at the bus terminal. We queued for two hours and finally got tickets but had to wait a further 6 hours. Do you realise how boring a bus terminal can be? Time aproached for us to board the bus for our 6.5 hour ride to Oaxaca and we were getting pretty excited. The security as you board a bus was amazing. The metal dectector awaited us which we passed with flying colours but beyond that stood a woman which it was her job to then frisk us down. By the grin on her face she really enjoys her job. Queuing for the bus we noticed a bus employee with a video camera waiting for us to board. After we were seated the guy with the camera started filming everyone on board. When he got to us and never wanting to miss a photo shot I said to Geri, Group photo so we got together and smiled our widest smile for the camera. I think everyone was a bit taken back for our enthusiasm for the security film. We headed off on our journey and the bus driver started to speak, after about 10 minutes he finished and I asked Geri what did he say. What had taken the driver 10 minutes Geri answered in 4 words.........Theyll play a film. Who said the Spanish lanuage was hard!!!
Finally got to Frida Kahlo ( the one with one eyebow ) and Diego Rivera's Blue House. Saw some of their great paintings. Diego's are interesting cause they tell a story, mostly murals, and Frida's are just plain weird only a women who has been through incredible pain could possibly paint the things she did!
And by the way we found some Mexican coffee at the local Starbucks - yes they have made it to Mexico city, they are using the local shade grown beans, it was some of the nicest coffee we've had here. For the most part I've lost my taste for the bean but Carol has developed into a coffee and pina colada afficinado. Cafe con leche is ok but the rest they seem to burn, just gotta get better at selecting the right coffee place I suspect. The chocolate is great though.
As for my Spanish well..... i still mistake dos for doce ( 2 for 12 ) and when you're talking times for buses or arriving at posadas, it tests the patience, Carol's spanish is coming along in leaps and bounds but, she's got the bill and the bathroom down pat, oh well she's got heaps more than that but that would spoil the story!
