We flew in on Aeromexico. I am still impressed by the seat comfort and service they provide on board. The cockpit staff and flight attendants are always friendly and cheerful. We breezed through immigration at the brand new terminal in Mexico City; a big improvement over the old one. There were plenty of shopping, eating and drinking diversions to keep us occupied for our 3-hr. layover. We made the 1-hr scheduled flight from Mexico City to Acapulco in 30 minutes time and whisked through baggage claim and customs. We were greeted by only one timeshare salesman from the Mayan Resorts. A breath of fresh air compared to getting bombarded by them at other Mexico resort airports. He politely accepted “No” for our answer to taking a tour and walked us over to the taxi stand and ... read more

Day 17 We caught a bus to La Placita where we watched as they butchered a cow on the street with an axe. We got back on the bus and continued on to Lazaros Cardenas where we walked 1 block and immediately caught a bus to Zihuatanejo. It was a long day of riding the winding coastal highway 200. Zihuatanejo is a collection of a small group of beaches most of which are connected by a pleasant winding board walk. After not hearing english for so long we couldn't help but be disappointed at the number of english speaking tourist wandering the beaches and streets. Zihuatanejo is located in a bay which is great for boats seeking a safe harbour and families with small children seeking it's shallow gentle waves. Day 18 We decided to leave ... read more

Day 2 was rather uneventful, the plane arrived on time, we left on time and landed in a typical day in Acapulco. 30 Degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We excaped the gouging taxis fares just to discover no taxis would pick us up on the road outside the Airport. We decided to take a local chicken bus complete with holes in the floors and no glass in the windows. The Woman in front of us skillfully breast feeding her toddler while careening down the mountain road. Having no idea where this bus would take us we decided to debus when it turned off the main road. From there we catch a taxi that knew our hotel and said he would take us there. But two thirds of the way the driver changed his ... read more

Having flown AA twice in the past 5 years and both times having issues with mechanical problems with the plane, we weren´t surprised to find that when we arrived at the air port at 4:30 am that our flight had been cancelled due to mechanical problems. The first attendent placed us on stand by for another flight to Chicago but apon arriving at our gate we were informed we were dreaming if we thought we could get on the next flight. This attendent put us on a stand by for Dallas that would connect to a flight to Acapulco. After an anxious hour we were thrilled to receive boarding passes with actual seat numbers. Although Neil remained skeptical not believing our good fortune until sitting in his seat. While standing in line to board the plane ... read more

And so we are off on another worldly adventure. On May 16 we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge signaling the end of our 2008 world cruising. Six months later on November 16 we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge on our way to Los Angeles to begin our next round of cruising. We certainly enjoyed our time on terra firma and made several trips in the United States. We visited family and friends in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona, Nevada and California. When we were in Sausalito we enjoyed numerous boating trips around San Francisco Bay. It was nice to reconnect with our friends both in our marina and at our swim club. We were kept busy attending to our yearly medical appointments, tax reports, visa applications, boat maintenance and all the other day ... read more

This takes us to an 11 hour drive from Manzanillo to another costal paradise. Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are two towns across a bay from each other that have very different personalities. One is full of all-inclusive resorts perfectly landscaped with legible street signs and the other resembles what Andrew and I have been used to. So we stayed in Zih which had a nice market, sizable fishing activity, and plenty of people. We definitely get looks where ever we go and we are everyone´s "amigo." We took a water taxi to Ixtapa Island where everyone needed their hands greased and took in some good snorkeling. I don´t know how, but we´ve been pretty good at attracting people with a lot to say about where we are going. A Mick Jagger lookalike told us all about Guatemala ... read more

Taxco (pronounced tahss-ko) is built on a mountainside. It is a beautiful town with many hills. Seriously, if you wanna lose some weight and build huge legs, move to Taxco. I gained 20 pounds of leg muscle just by walking around town....many times uphill. There are no sidewalks either, so you also build speed by dodging cars that drive inches from you. A little more time here and I could try out for the NFL. All the buildings in Taxco are designed similarly and share the same white paint job. The Mexican government wanted to keep it's colonial look, so it enforces new structures to make sure they fit with the town's look. The houses are all built very close to one another...tight fit. The mercado is a maze. I kept getting lost in there. There ... read more

Toni and I decided to get off the ship early in the morning because we had docked rather early. When we got off the ship, it was raining but I didn’t really care. It was refreshing to be off the ship so early. We didn’t start back until about 2pm which was awesome. We went to have some food before getting off the ship. As soon as we got through the terminal we were confronted by a huge group of taxi drivers wanting us to take their taxis...rather expensive taxis if I don’t mind saying! He he. Anyway, we haggled a bit, and then saw Sharon had got off the ship too so she joined us. She haggled her way to a bargain taxi ride around the city to see the sights which we were happy ... read more
