He's Baaack
Come and get some... Man let me tell ya’ll, I’ve been kickin it. So far Suzanne and I have been able to see and do a lot. Now I’m not doing it like P. Diddy but I am having a grand time all the same. On average we do something every weekend. The following entry is a typical weekend here for us.
The weekend mostly starts off on Wednesdays. Wednesday night is probably one of the best nights to go out here in GTO. The best things about Wednesday nights are the bar promotions. Almost every bar here has the usual 2x30 beers ($1.50 brews) but some of the better drinking spots have even better deals. Suzanne, myself, and two of our friends went to La Juanita to “get right” and get the night rolling. This bar is real chill> cool décor, good music, good service and strong drinks. On Wednesday nights ladies drink for free until midnight and guys get 2x1 you call it. So we posted up there up for a minute then head to this club called Colorado. Now this is more of a techno/dance spot, but the real attraction for me is that bottle service is crazy cheap. For a
Good Times
Hanging with friends at the bar. bottle of Absolute with juice, ice and limes it is only $37 US. For a bottle of Bacardi Rum (or Ron as it is called here) with 2 liters of coke and all the trimmings> 220 pesos or about $21 US. And what is even crazier is that if you don’t finish, you can take it with you. But there was no need for take out because we got good and full, the Mrs. was a little too full, but it was a good night all the same.
Thursday’s are usually movie nights. Bootlegs are king in my book because they only cost $3. You can get anything on the streets> from Casa Blanca to the new King Kong. Sometimes I see movies at the local theater, but they don’t change that often. So advantage bootlegs. This particular night we watched Wolf Creek (It was kind of wack, but still entertaining). The quality of the movie was super and to add to our theater experience I went and bought some speakers for my laptop earlier that afternoon. So we chilled seeing how we were on recovery status from the previous night.
Friday I hit the town solo. Suzanne
Three the Hard Way
it only takes three...setup if you want to and the girls stayed in and watched The 40-year-old Virgin. Most often folks from my school get together to throw back a few or just get away from school and chat in a more casual environment. The Falcon's (that is the name of the school by the way) hangout spot is Bar Ocho or if that is packed the second choice is Bar Fly. Both spots are cool. Bar Ocho is more relaxed and they have a free pool table and good food (try the Nachos con Pollo). Bar Fly is a bohemian type spot with a small stage and a cool rooftop patio. We ended up at Bar Fly drinking 22oz Sol brews and having a good time. Both bars are the kind of spots where students and younger tourist go to let loose. On any given night you never know whom you’ll end up talking to there. I have meet folks from Vermont, London UK, Germany and a few Swedish cats. The fact that I am always the only black person is a catalyst for conversation, but the folks I’ve meet have keep it real, so it is always a good time. After a few hours at Bar
The Band
Mama Mia's band knew how to groove and grin Fly we headed to Capitolio. Now this is probably the premiere party spot in GTO. They have a cool, but not so cool lounge area called the Ghetto…Now it is cool because they play the finest in Hip Hop music and the vibe there is cool, but why the Ghetto? It is not like they have a penny candy lady and sell crack in that section of the bar, but whatever back to the story…so the night ended there and all was well. The thing that sucks here is that there are no 24hr/after the club eating spots. I never thought I’d miss White Castles but there is nothing like a little greasy food after a night of drinking.
Saturday was Lucha Libre night. Two nights prior I ran into the promoter of the event who extend the VIP service to me and whomever I wanted to bring with me. So I came 12 deep to the wrestling match and as in the past it was very fun. The ref/clown made our house mate Sarah blush by giving her a kiss, and for her it was hard not to play along with the whole stadium egging her on. The highlight of the night was the fact that I got to meet some of the wrestlers and take a few pics. One Lucha offered to sell me his mask, but I already have 3 so I had to pass. After the match we had a small set here at the house and we ate and drank until about 1:30 a.m.
The Weekend ended with a trip to San Miguel de Allende. I must say that I wasn’t too hype on going because it was wild card weekend in the NFL (both my teams lost). But all the same we went and it was what it was. San Miguel is smaller than GTO and filled with old retired Texans. We spent the day shopping for Silver products, well Suzanne did I just chilled. I did purchase the coolest game ever. It is a stick with a ball on the end of it and you have to swing the ball so it lands on the end on the stick. Now this sounds dumb as hell I know but this silly simple game is addicting. It is the ultimate in man vs. machine action. I spent 40 minutes doing it and I only got it 6 times. I think my technique is wrong, but I have yet to find a person that can do it with ease. The best part of the trip was the food. We ate at this Italian restaurant called Mama Mia’s. It has live music and the food portions are very good. I had the biggest calzone in my life and the spot was just really cool. What was even cooler was there bathroom. Instead the urinal tub being just a large tub, it was a large tub filled with ice, so you didn’t have to flush and it didn’t smell like most men’s bathrooms. Well I thought it was cool. It was like pissin in the snow.
And that is how ya boy has been rolling in Mexico. I have had a lot weekends like this. I guess I’m making the most of this experience just as anyone of you would. I guess the moral to the story is Roll to the Wheels Fall Off. And just so you know there are no worms in good Tequila.
