Xochimilco, if translated from the language of Aztecs, it means 'Place of flowerly-sown land'. Since the 12th century, vegetables, medicinal and ornamental plants are grown here and these traditional activities have remain unchanged. It is here that it claims to have the last few remaining canals of Lake Texcoco and its pre-Hispanic floating gardens, which is built by means of chinampas or artificial islets.

The brightly colored squarish boats, most of them complete with female name, the floating food vendors and the Mariachi on the canals have made this place one of the favourite tourist spot in Mexico.

All the boats are big enough to take up to 12-14 person, but there were only two of us, so we have the whole boat to ourself. We must have looked like rich tourist for them 😊. Only then we realised all the other tourists have done the same thing like us. The friendly dockman skillfully guide us out from the crowded pier into the canal. We went on the weekday and it was so tranquil here. During the weekend, the serenity will transform into a festive atmosphere, as it will be visited by families, who usually come in a big crowd. Though i knew i should have just sat back and enjoy the scene, but i couldn't help but to take lots of pictures. Meanwhile, Vero was talking to the boatman about how they benefit from this tourist activity.

We glided gracefully on the water, occasionally approached by vendors selling all sort of stuff, ranging from foods, flowers to souvenirs. Then we heard music, it was the Mariachis, serenading two trajineras, running side by side, occupied by a big family. Playing some of the old time- favourite, vero started singing too, and i could see that it brought back some old sweet memories of hers.

After the canal cruise, we went for a bumpy free horse ride in the park.
