ZocaloThe biggest flag in the world.
So we finally got to Mexico City ..
At the arrival, we set our goal NOT to be robbed at the airport, which we managed without problems..
The hostel is .. different. We were warned beforehand by Mie's neighbours that the hostel might be a little crummy. and it is.. The highlights include: NO hot water, smell of old socks, no change of sheets and the place is located in the middle of a street marked. The people designing the internet ratings must be on drugs. Anyway, we settled as there are no other hostels rooms free anywhere else. At least it is just a few minutes from the main square (Zocalo).
Day 1 We decided to fill up the entire stay in Mexico City with tours and activities, to catch up on as much as possible. On this day we did the City Tour with visits to Palacio National and Templo Mayor, which is the remains of the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlán - located right in the middle of the city center - the Zocalo.
We ended up at the Cathedral and did our first attempt at trying Mexican restaurant standards..
Optimistically we booked another event,
the Lucha Libre - Mexican show wrestling. The wrestling in itself was pretty stupid, except from the fighting dwarf .. the Pequeno Violencia. The tour guide was a damn hustler, trying to wrestle away our prescious pesos. Very tired, we crashed at our smelly home away from home.
Day 2 After a little misunderstanding with the tour guys, we experimented with the mexico metro - and went to the Museo de Antropologia. A great 3 hours tour with a pleasant athmosphere and professionally made exibitions. The cafe got mixed review from the two of us - Mie is a hard, hard critic. The museo is located right across a amusement park, where we spend our time watching guys flying and dancing. So far no serious stomach problems, so we started to experiment.
Day 3 Today we went Frida Carlos house - which was revolutionary. From there we went on a great tour to Xochimilco - the remains of the lake which Mexico City is built upon. It was a very colorfull experience with little boats, mexican families eating and sailing mariachi bands. We shared the boat with some nice English people, Dan and Nick, with whom we ended
Lucha LibreLUCHA LUCHA ... one part stupid, one part masks and one part homoerotic touching of grown men.
having diner at a
authentic mexican restaurant. We gambled on the order and waited 10 mexican minutes (30), and ended up with mixed dishes. The meals were ok, unfortunately Dan ordered a sea of smelly cheese with fries.. mmmm.... We experimented with not taking a lunch nap, and therefore crashed super tired at 21.
Day 4 The last day in Ciudad Mexico went with seeing the main attraction - the piramids of Teotihuacán. Although filled with tourists, it was a nice experience to climb the piramid of the sun. The sun is shining sporadically, but Mie still got a nice purple ring around her neck. Tomorrow we are going to Oaxaca to see more ruins and to get closer to the Pacific Ocean. Drying machine broken. Still no serious stomach problems. Spending a bit too much.

Hi Prokop and Mie ,
Mexico looks pretty colourful undersigned by Mr Violencia fitting skills , this must be a mind resetting experience. From my poor memory isn't the Mexico City the most air polluted city in the world overcrowded by Zapatistas fighters? Well done guys and we are looking for more revelling photos and descriptions. Take care and I wish both to have a good times and safe return.
Best regards
Milan
