Well, here we are in Palenque. A Mayan ruin site. I dont really have much interest in the ruins but I guess we should really see them as were here.
For the past two nights we have been staying in a jungle cabana. Its full to the brim of moths, I swear, at night its moth central. It has a thatched roof so anything can get in. It didn't bother me so much in the day but when night came I was pretty pathetic.
I was ok at first but then the moths joined us so Tom decided to burn the suckers with jungle formula mosquito spray and then splat them with our map. The smell of the bug spray made them go insane so they were flying all over the place, I was in the corner jumping round and screaming like a pansy. (kind of like nat) Then, as I settled down to write my journal I saw a huge beast of a spider creeping round my clothes, I screamed the place down and made Tom kill it but not before it took a huge jump and him and then he splated it with his trainer. I did
not sleep easy. When I look back now the whole night I was panicky that I would be attacked by some pyhco jungle bug. I had the covers up so high and my hair covering my ears so nothing could get in there.
I managed to brave a trip to the shared toliets a bit further down from our hut. The toilets are rank with shower curtains that dont shut the whole way. I went in and shut the curtain and a huge praying mantis was just sat there waiting for me. Were leaving today and Im pretty happy about it.
We've been here two days and done all the ruin and waterfall tours. We're both over it now. Seen enough waterfalls to last us a lifetime. They were pretty but theres only so mush appreciation you can have for waterfalls when you see about 10 in the same day. One of the waterfalls was in the movie Predator, if that means anything to you...I haven't seen it. We got to swim in a pretty nice one, Tom was in his element doing flips and superman dives. I went in it but it was frezzing and I got
it in my mind there were crocs in there so my swimming was mostly fast doggy paddle from side to side checking behind me.
We drove through all these indegenous villages where kids and women come and try you some mouldy bananas, one girl was so cute and very persistant so I caved in and bribed her with a photo, she was confused.
Were off to San Cristobal later on, see ya xxx
Muscles50p to take us across the river. Child labour.
