Hola! My apologies on taking an eternity to write, my trips in the past few months have been more personal than pleasure based. I went home in late October/early November for a lovely autumn visit with family and friends, and then up to Northern California in December for a white Christmas. But these trips were not quite enough to cure my travel bug, so by mid-January I was getting stir crazy and fixated on my next international adventure: Mexico. Now to residents of Southern California, Mexico is the normal weekend getaway. Everyone has crossed over the border at some point in their life, even if just for some Coronas on a lunch break. It's just not a big deal! I suppose I could compare it to Canada for anyone up north, except there's a lot less ... read more

Our six month “visa” to Mexico will soon be expired and we will be ending our visit to the Baja California Peninsula. We are spending our last month in Playa Rosarito, a small beach town just 20 minutes south of the U.S. Border. I put parenthesis around the word visa for a reason. We don’t have one! Technically we are illegal aliens and have been for our entire trip in Baja. We were talking to a local expat and told him of our lack of paperwork and he explained that large portions of the people in Baja are “illegal”. Now knowing that there are so many of “us” gives us the confidence to finally confess our less than correct ways. When we originally crossed the border at Tijuana back in August we read in Lonely Planet ... read more

We put the fear in the closet about going into Baja Mexico and had a great time in one of our favorite Mexico towns. In the past year or so a major rise in kidnapping and murders were happening to many locals. We use to frequent Puerto Nuevo for a day trips with out of town friends. The quaint little town of Puerto Nuevo offers lots of the typical shops you would find in Tijuana with out the crowd and bustle of TJ and some of the best Baja style lobster feast one can imagine at amazing cheap prices. After the rise in hideous crimes against so many, we have stayed out of Mexico and only had fond memories and day dreams of eating lobster at prices we can afford. When our Lake Taho friends invited ... read more

Thursday, December 11, 2008 8:39 PM We're here... Spunky the kitty princess won't come out from hiding. Everything is fine. Monday, December 15, 2008 10:54 PM The 3 of us were playing cards and now it's time for lunch. Yvonne is not able to have her surgery this year. She has to come back in February. She'll be leaving Thursday. By then hopefully it will warm up and we'll be happy to stay. Yvonne has been regaling us with family history and stories. As I thought she is not a naive English speaker. I'll put them into a journal by the end of the week. Howard and Yvonne only eat veggies and sandwiches so K and I will have to find which broken, ancient, pans to use for use, I'm not quite used to no hot ... read more

We decided to take a day trip to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico during the week with Rey's parents. It took us about 3 hours from Los Angeles. Puerto Nuevo is about 10-15 minutes past Rosarito along the coast. Almost any restaurant is good in the area, just remember the more expensive the lobster will be if you have a ocean view, like we did. (It doesnt make the lobster taste any better). ... read more

The Mexican national surfing competition was held right in front of our house from Sept 19 - 23. Saturday was also Peter Tosh Day and there was a reggae festival going on at the same time. Eek a Mouse and Israel Vibration were there as well as many other good bands. The weather was beautiful and we made a lot of new friends including surf legend Jack Flynn. It was nice to have such a relaxing couple of days because right before that Justine was woken up during the night and a man was on the patio and seemed to be looking through the glass slider. (Our bed was in the middle of the living room because we were in the middle of having tile floors put in our bedrooms.) Justine jumped and yelled "get out ... read more

Thanks to all our friends who visited us during our numerous garage sales and who helped us get out of Santa Cruz. We finally left at 9:30 pm on Sunday, August 26, 2007. We (or should I say Press) drove all through the night. At 5:30 am, Press said ok, it now it is your turn to drive. Our first argument ensued when I told him that my head had been bobbing around all night and I had not really slept as the car lurched every time he scrolled through all 13,000 songs on his ipod. Luckily we were just approaching the exit for Laguna Niguel which is where Press grew up. He has many friends there that are like family to him, so we pulled up to Lael and Tim Fresenius' house at 5:30 am. ... read more

Seufer6: Destination--Rosarito Beach, Mexico After our trip to the Midway we had a nice visit with Grandma Bonnie, Uncle Thane, Aunt Leslie, and cousins Laney and Carley. At this time we have been here for 7 days and 6 nights and have had many adventures!! Day 1- We went straight from the USS Midway to Rosarito Beach, Mexico! After getting to Rosarito Beach, we went straight to my daddy's favorite taco place, Yaqui's tacos. Yummy. The cook makes everything right in front of you and he makes funny cat sounds. The radishes are deliciously crisp. Day 2- We went straigt to the Rosarito Beach Hotel to have some breakfast and do arts and crafts!! All the kids got there own clay sculpture to paint- Me(Jessica): Dolphin, Tanner: Dragon, Emma: Hello Kitty, Laney: Unicorn, Lilly: Care Bear, ... read more

The weather was conflicting. Was it going to rain or not? It did, and it even hailed, leaving the ground very wet and muddy—making the whole experience for my parents, tita (aunt), tito (uncle), and lola (grandma) of their very first trip to baja mexico reminiscent of the Philippines. I warned them that as soon as we cross the border, the cars will be involved in some chaotic dance where everyone will scramble to get to their right “lanes”. The traffic lanes and the order we had in the US will all be a blur because in Mexico, traffic lanes don’t exist. I warned my dad not to drive since he’s no longer used to the chaotic drive that will surely face him in TJ on the way to Rosarito. Driving in Mexico will be a ... read more

One of the best things about living in San Diego is how close it is to mexico. I've been down there three times now. It takes about an hour to get there and its easy to get a hotel room right near all the big clubs in Rosarito. We drive through Tijuana to get there but haven't really checked it out yet, its a fairly dirty and disgusting place. First two times i we went down for a night only. Second time we took one of Amy's friends who was visiting for a week and who i met at their wedding. Its always heaps of fun. The area we go is squarely aimed at american tourists looking for a party- especially those between 18 and 21 who can't drink in the states but can easily do ... read more
