BioluminescenceThis is what the lights would look like in full color......What I saw was just little glow stick like lights on the beach.
Thanks again to all my faithful bloggers who have been reading along. This year's adventure is coming quickly to an end and it is hard to believe. So much time has been spent bickering, supervising workers, more bickering, and more supervision of the local workers, ad nauseam! We now only have a couple of weeks to really enjoy.....
This week we were able to reciprocate all the dinners to which we have been invited this winter. Now that we have things somewhat settled, we had in the crew for lasagne and chilaquiles. It was great fun and we have really been so fortunate to have made such good friends here and look forward to more fun in the future.
One of the things that I discovered thanks to Bob B (again!!) is the phenomenon of bioluminescence. I feel kind of stupid b/c I was lacking in the knowledge of what this was all about! So if there is anyone out there who is ignorant, like me, here is what it is in a capsule:
Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism as the result of a chemical reaction during which chemical energy is converted

to light energy. The best known land forms of bioluminescence is fireflies! But this is colored firefly substance in the water!!! So Bob B was telling how they were coming back from a night fishing last wk and that as he looked back at the wake, it was all illuminated with all kinds of neon-like lights. I was fascinated so the next night with camera in hand, I headed down to the beach to see if I could see these little organisms that produce this light. At first, seeing nothing, I was disappointed. But then as my eyes adjusted to the dark, I began to see this awesome spectacle of little lights on the sand. The more I moved in the water, the more it luminesced!!(sp???) However, the light is shortlived and it was impossible to capture it on camera. So when I got back, I went online to find more information and some pictures only to find this ONE that is really much more than what I saw but gives you an idea. But marine life can produce this too and there can be areas in the ocean just lit up!
Although we haven't seen any of the
other land creatures such as scorpions, our neighbors 2 doors down found a meaty one in their shower! I have only seen a few beetles and my little iguana. I did go out on the kayak yesterday and saw a couple of seals pretty close up! They are cute. Lots of Marlin and Dorado (mahi mahi) have been caught so the fishermen are happy.
Today the wind came up so it was "chore" day for me. We have a bunch of leftover palo de arco sticks so I moved those into the bodega after sweeping and rearranging stuff in there. No bugs there either! I started to pack up the towels and sheets into plastic bins but got too depressed so I went for a walk on the beach! Then I came back and had a beer, fixed dinner, had some wine, cleaned up and got to this task along with another beer!!!
Hope you like the pics!
Marlin flag.....supposed to be "catch and release" unless the fish is injured....
YellowtailFrom what I can surmise, this is a type of tuna.......but others say not. ???????????
Bert and LoisI call these two, "Bert and Ernie". What fun are these two!
